Across the Ocean and Back - Chapter 3
I don't feel like writing out the whole name of the story so I think I'm going to shorten it to ATOAB.....just want to let you know!
The minute my shift was over I nearly ran back to my room. That was only one shift and I already hate it! I changed out of my work clothes and pulled on a pair of basketball shorts with a tanktop. I went to the employee kitchen and made myself a sandwich.
"I'm sorry sir, but employees only are allowed in here," Mr. Dovel led a man out of the kitchen and came back in.
His hair was no longer slicked back but fell in his eyes slightly. He was wearing a pair of kaki shorts and a black t-shirt that showed off his muscles quite nicely. I chewed on my sandwich quietly watching him run his hand through his hair. His job can't be that stressful, I mussed to myself and watched as he realized I was in here.
"Hello Ms. Howder," he smiled politely but I could tell it was forced.
"Hello," I replied back not caring to add his name.
"Mind if I join you?" he asked as he grabbed a protein bar.
"Not at all," I smiled and he sat down across from me.
"You are the towel lady?" he asked me and I grimaced.
"Yes sir," I tried to keep the scowl off my face.
"Call me Derek," he said while taking a bite out of his protein bar.
"Yes sir.. err. I mean Derek," I stuttered and he chuckled.
"May I call you Summer?" he asked me and I nodded my head.
"You have a very pretty name, Summer. It reminds me of my place back home," his eyes got all dreamy and I raised a brow at him.
"You miss your house?" I asked baffled by the idea of missing a house.
"Actually I do," he smiled and looked down at his half eaten protein bar.
''How can you miss a house? I mean I would understand if you had something that was alive to go back to. Like, a girlfriend, wife, dog, kid, you know?" I looked at him and he looked at me with sad eyes.
"Unfortunately I don't have anything to go back to besides objects," he told me and I gave gim a sympathetic face.
"I'm sorry. Maybe i should just go. I'm obviously not making things any better," I stood up but he just stopped me.
"May I have the honor of accompanying you?" he asked me and i gave him a puzzled expression.
"What?" I asked and he laughed at me.
"Let me walk you to your room," he looked rather amused but I was angry he was laughing at me.
"It's not my fault I can't understand you," I crossed my arms across my chest as he followed me to my room.
"Really? Then I suppose it's my fault?" he asked and I looked him in the eyes. His eyes danced with laughter and I shook my head trying not
to stare at him.
"Well. You speak like you're from a different time," I told him and he burst out laughing.
"I'm sorry," he apologized when he looked at my annoyed expression.
"I just want you to know that I am not a vampire," he said and my eyes widened.
"I wasn't even thinking that?!" I practically yelled at him as we reached my room.
"Well you never know what young girls are thinking anymore because of the Twilight series," he shrugged and I tilted my head like a dog does when they are listening to you.
"Excuse me? Young Girl? Who said I was a young girl," I tapped my foot impatiently and a grin spread across his face.
"I meant to say young woman," he emphasized the woman and I knew he was being sarcastic.
"Well I hardly have to wonder what young woman think about anything, I just wonder what young boys, such as yourself, think about," I smirked at him as he shook his head like I was crazy.
"Trust me. You don't want to know what young boys, such as myself, think about," he leaned in closer to me and I retreated to my room.
