Sometimes you want to give up the guitar, you'll hate the guitar. But if you stick with it, you're gonna be rewarded. - Jimi Hendrix

If you are planning to learn to play the guitar, you will have to obtain some basic guitar lessons. One of the most important guitar lessons is how to read guitar tablatures. A guitar tablature, also referred to as a tab, is a theoretical representation of six strings and certain points to be held on the fretboard for making a complete chord. A tab shows the position of placing fingertips on the strings on the fretboard. Beginners should note that the playing style on an acoustic and electric guitar is basically the same. However, there are just a few differences which can be learned as you advance further in the skill.

How to Read Guitar Tabs for Beginners

Reading tablatures is a very easy task if you get to know the components, symbols, and numbers thereon. On a guitar tab, there are certain numbers and symbols, with each relating to the way the string is to be played or where the fingertip is to be kept on the fretboard. If there is a '0' on any string, it shows that the string is to be played in an open manner. In case there is an 'X', the string is to be muted or not played at all. The numbers on particular strings show on which fret you are supposed to place the fingertip of your chording hand. There are many more symbols for complicated concepts such as hammer-ons, pull-offs, sliding up, sliding down, and others. However, as of now, you should only concentrate on learning to play chords.
