Acne – Elimination Is In Understanding

There are hundreds of products out there that promise to fight acne, but which one is right for you? Knowing the most common forms of acne, and recognizing which pimples you have will help you make the best decision.
There are few teenagers who don’t know what its like to have acne shatter their confidence. – And almost all of these teenagers know how difficult acne can be to get rid of. It is not known exactly what causes acne, but it is agreed that it begins with a clogged pore that fills with sebum. This pore then becomes enlarged from the excess oil, causing a perfectly moist environment for bacteria to grow. – Making a lot of pimples really just small infections. Acne usually ends by the time a person reaches adulthood, but it’s not uncommon for people to break out even in their thirties and forties! It is also the most common skin disease, with at least 17 million people in the US alone suffering from it.

"Acne" is actually a word that is used to classify several different skin conditions that feature pimples or pimple-like bumps. Most people with acne actually suffer the specific condition acne vulgaris. This kind of acne can produce several different forms of pimple, but some of the most common are papules, pustules, whiteheads, and blackheads. Pustules and papules are the exact same thing – a simple bump in the skin – but pustules actually contain a tiny amount of pus-like sebum, bacteria, and dead skin cells. These are the kind that most people tend to pop, believing that it will cause them to disappear sooner. This is not the case. A pustule will remain on the skin for only a few days is treated, and when it is popped only causes reddening of the skin and can potentially leave behind a scar. Whiteheads and blackheads, similarly, are also nearly identical. They are both slightly deeper in the skin, but with a blackhead, the pore is large enough for sufficient amounts of oxygen to mix with bacteria to cause a dark-colored mass. This eventually rises up to the surface of the skin, where it can be seen and easily removed.

Just as the exact formation of acne is complex, so is treating it. Although there are a few good rules of thumb to keep in mind, different cases and types of acne need to be handled differently. Different people also respond differently to certain forms of treatment and prevention, as there are many different biological factors that come into play. The most important rule is that you wash your skin every day, cleansing your pores. This will help keep the pores free from clogging, and reduce the likelihood of pimples developing. Keep away from materials and products that are too abrasive, as they will only cause the skin to be irritated, which prompts the production of more skin oil. Other than cleansing, most people will see marked improvement in their skin through the use of different over-the-counter medications and treatments, although you will have to test different products out for yourself to see which one works best for you. Some people, however, will not be able to completely rid themselves of their acne due to certain conditions, and teenagers will have especially hard times keeping their skin clear.

Acne is most often found on the face, back and shoulders, so make sure to also look for body washes that are shown to help with acne for the body as well. In addition to the acne that plagues younger people, there is also a form of skin acne called Rosacea. This disease most often occurs later on in life, to people around the ages of 30-40. Rosacea is much more discolored than acne, and usually occurs in the middle of the face. It is unknown exactly what causes Rosacea, but research seems to suggest that the consumption of "warm" drinks such as alcohol and coffee might be linked to it. Unfortunately, there is as of yet no way to completely get rid of Rosacea, but with a good awareness and certain prescribed medications the symptoms and signs can be greatly reduced.
