The formation of acne is mainly triggered by overproduction of sebum, an oily substance by the sebaceous glands that lies under the skin surface. The sebum is needed to keep the skin hydrated naturally. When there is an overproduction of sebum, then it clogs up the facial skin pores. Then the dirt and bacteria that are trapped inside these pores causes infection and resulting in outbreak of one or more red, inflamed lumps that we call acne. There are several methods of homemade acne treatments. However, all of them may not be effective for you. So, you have to select the best acne treatment for yourself on your own on trial and error basis. A few simple natural acne cures are as follows:

Neem Leaves and Turmeric: This is a traditional method of clearing acne naturally. Take some tender neem leaves and raw turmeric and then crush them to make a paste. Apply it on the pimples for 15-20 minutes and then wash off.

Ice Pack: Take an ice cube, wrap it up in a cloth and apply it on the acne for 5-10 minutes and not more than that. This gives an instant soothing effect on the irritation caused by acne. After repeated application of 4-5 times in a day, you will find that the inflammation has gone down too.

Toothpaste: This is one of the most popular acne cures overnight. Apply a coin size of toothpaste on the acne and keep it untouched overnight. The toothpaste will absorb all the excessive oil from the acne and thus the size of the acne decreases. The next day, wash it off with lukewarm water first and then with cold water.

Sandalwood Powder: Prepare a thick paste by mixing up sandalwood powder and rose water. Apply it all over the face and leave it overnight. Next morning rinse off with plain water. The natural medicinal properties of sandalwood has a healing effect on the acne. Moreover, it is considered as one of the best home remedies for acne scars that were left behind by your old pimples. For this reason, you are being advised to apply the paste not just on the acne but on the entire face.

Honey and Cinnamon: The antibacterial properties of honey and cinnamon help a lot to get rid of acne fast. Take 2 teaspoonful of raw honey and add one teaspoon of cinnamon powder into it and mix it well. Apply a generous amount of it on the acne and wait for half an hour. After you wash it off you will find that the redness of the acne has disappeared.

Lemon Juice and Rose Water: Combine equal quantities of lemon juice and rose water. Apply this solution on the acne and let it sit over it for half an hour. Then rinse off with water. This treatment has to be repeated daily for 15 days in order to cure the acne.

Mint Juice: Mint juice is an effective acne treatment. Add some turmeric powder to the fresh mint juice and apply the paste on acne. Keep it for 15-20 minutes and then wash off with warm water. After the acne is cured, if you continue to apply fresh mint juice on your face every night then acne prevention is possible in future.

To yield maximum benefits from all these acne cures at home, you have to follow a good skin care regime. It includes cleansing of the facial skin with a mild antibacterial soap which should be followed by toning and moisturizing of the skin. You also have to keep yourself healthy from within by eating well-balanced meals, drinking plenty of water and doing regular exercises.
