Acne and Hormones Connection Exposed

Do you suffer from acne? Learn how to balance your hormones and get clear skin, because hormonal imbalance is among the most important causes of acne.
Let us find out more about hormones and how they work

The history of the word hormones can be traced back to Greece where "horman" that means "to set in motion" was used to refer to it. Whatever word you may use to refer, hormones are basically chemical messengers that carry instructions between cells in the body. There are glands known as the "endocrine system" that secrete the hormones to the bloodstream.

Take a look at the functions the hormones and you will know how important they are. Muscle metabolism, cell metabolism, balancing the internal environment or the ‘homeostasis’, reproductive and sexual functions, storing and burning of fat, and the growth and sleep cycles. The amount of oil in the skin is an important element in acne and this oil is made by the sebum gland. Hormones play an important role here as well as they regulate the making of this oil.

When because of some reason the balance of the hormones is disturbed, it leads to a negative impact on the oil glands, and as a result, the glands end up making more oil than is required. This, plus the accumulation of toxins in the body leads to the formation of acne. And thus the need to balance the level of the hormones. Keep your hormones in perfect balance and you can be sure that the skin oil production will also not exceed the requirements. This will guarantee that the symptoms of acne like the greasy skin, inflammation and the puss will also not be there.

Learn the way the hormones get regulated

The system in which the hormones are regulated is not a simple one – in fact, it is quite complex and delicate, and it is highly intelligent too. There are similarities between this and the way the home temperature system works. When it becomes too hot, the thermostat is able to sense the increase in temperature and it takes appropriate steps to bring it down. Then again, when the temperature becomes too cold, the thermostat again brings it up. Hormones in the body work in much the same way to regulate the various functions. However the hormonal functions are much more complicated than the thermostat.

The workings of the human cells are similar to the thermostat. The cells know the number of hormones that are needed to properly work. Working like the thermostat, the hormones increase or decrease bodily heat.

It is the cells that identify what is required to be done, and once this is done, the cells inform the hormones to actually do the required job. However for the system to work smoothly, and for cells and the hormones to be able to communicate properly, there has to be a messenger that will function flawlessly.

These messengers that work between the hormones and the cells are the Prostaglandins. Needless to say, if there were no Prostaglandins, there would not have been any line of contact between the cells and the hormones. In such a situation, the hormones will not be in balance.

Prostaglandins and the acne connection

These are actually biochemicals in charge of communication between the hormones and the cells. They also make the cells do the job. Working from the inside, the Prostaglandins control the workings of the cells and the organs by helping the cells and the hormones communicate.

The inflammatory responses of the body become possible because of Prostaglandins. They are also responsible for increasing the making of mucus to protect inflammation, clotting, helping the reproduction process, and also for enhancing the blood flow to the kidneys.

For acne, the Prostaglandins are responsible for balancing the androgen hormones. This act ensures that the correct amount of body oil is produced by the sebum gland. If the skin oil glands are making excess oil, then it might lead to acne formation.

The body needs enough Prostaglandins because otherwise, the hormones may not be properly regulated. To have enough Prostaglandins in the body, you need sufficient amounts of nutrients like essential fatty acids. But that is not all – you will also need to ensure that these nutrients are obtained from good sources and in the right ratio. If this does not happen, the production of Prostaglandins will be hampered.

Along with the nutrients, your body will also need extra supplements – they will help the Prostaglandins get absorbed better.

The correct nutrients and supplements together will make sure that there are enough Prostaglandins for the regulation of hormones. Make this happen and the hormones will be in perfect balance – this is not only bad news for acne, but for many other diseases that occur from an imbalance in the hormones such as PMS symptoms, excess body fat and hair loss.

Why you should get rid of used hormones and build a strong liver to maintain hormonal balance?

Prostaglandins work miracles to aid the cells and the hormones communicate by balancing the hormones. But this may not be enough.

When everything is working well, the hormones do their job well (that they have been asked to by the cells), and then get eliminated from the body as they are not needed anymore. These are the used hormones.

This act of getting rid of the used hormones is very important as well because if it does not happen, there is soon going to be too many of them (the body is constantly making new hormones). Excess hormones in the body leads to chronological imbalance and this again, urges the sebum gland to over produce body oil – thus leading to acne.

The expulsion of the used hormones is the duty of the liver. This is one of the important functions of the liver that is responsible for removing the used hormones from the lymph and the blood. The used hormones are thrown out from the kidneys and the bowels.

But there may be too many toxins within the liver and this makes it sluggish. A sluggish liver cannot expel the hormones, and as a result, the system ends up with too many of them. This is another chronically imbalanced state that leads to acne. No matter how efficiently the Prostaglandins are working, it won’t help.

In conclusion I have to say that you need a strong liver because the hormones simply need to be regulated and expelled properly. The hormones need to be in balance if you are to get rid of acne.
