Acid Reflux Signs - Do You Have Any?

If you experience acid reflux signs, act now. If acid reflux or GERD is left untreated, it can cause eating and swallowing problems.
Acid reflux is caused when the acids of the stomach are propelled upward into the esophagus and throat. One of the primary acid reflux signs is heartburn, which feels like a fiery sensation taking place in the upper stomach, chest, and throat. Heartburn is one of those things that cannot be described properly, but when it happens, you will always know what it feels like.

Some people have such intense discomfort that they will try to inhale more air through an open mouth or drink icy liquid to try to relieve the burning feeling. Unfortunately, these do not help alleviate the discomfort and people are still left feeling as though a hot pepper has just coated the inside of their throat. There are many acid reflux signs that are associated with ailment and a person may have one, two, or all of these.

Acid Reflux Signs include:
  • Intense burning in the chest and/or throat
  • Tightness in the chest or throat
  • Bloating and abdominal discomfort
  • Pressure in the chest, throat, or stomach
  • Belching, burping, or sour taste in the mouth
  • Excessive saliva
  • Dry cough, or feeling of something stuck in the back of the throat
  • Bitter, sour taste from backup of stomach acid entering the esophagus and throat
Some of the causes associated with acid reflux are:

Diets that include heavy fats
Eating large meals, especially shortly before going to bed
Stress
Cigarettes, Chocolate, and Alcohol
Obesity or Pregnancy
Slow digestive systems and problems that slow the emptying of the stomach

Many individuals have episodes of acid reflux symptoms but the following situations often precipitate the event:
- At the end of a meal, especially if the meal has been large or contained lots of fats
- When bending over or lifting something heavy that creates pressure in the mid abdominal area
- Lying down flat on a bed or sofa

A majority of episodes occur in the late evening or at night. Acid reflux can occur occasionally or on a regular basis with symptoms that mimic angina pains. A number of patients coming into the ER with chest pains are found to have Acid Reflux or GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease). GERD is diagnosed if a person is having acid reflux two or more times a week.

If you experience acid reflux signs, act now. If acid reflux or GERD is left untreated, it can lead to breakdown of the throat tissue and create many problems with eating and swallowing.
