Abortion: Pro-Choice Facts
There are many people who're supporting abortion, that is a belief in the right to abort a baby. Is it really a choice of the mother? Or is it wrong? Here is some information about the same.

An Overview of Abortion Pro-Choice
It all started in the late 1960s, when proponents of pro-choice started coming out with their belief system of supporting abortion and demanded its legalization. Immediate success was added to their kitty and abortion was legalized in 1967, in Colorado and California, in the US. Continuing on the same path, abortion was made legal in 16 states by the year 1970. States like New York, California, Hawaii and Alaska went ahead to design more liberal laws and even granted abortion rights for first 20 weeks into pregnancy. But not all was silent from the side of anti-abortion activists. There were demonstrations and numerous protests to demand a ban on abortion. Due to the sudden spur in the anti-abortion movements, states like Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina and Virginia only allowed abortion in very special cases. This included cases of rape, incest and when the mother's life was compromised. People advocating abortion got a historic win on January 22, 1973, in a lawsuit of "Roe vs. Wade", the Supreme Court legalized abortion in all 50 states of US. This decision became a foundation stone for abortion supporters and since then the pro-abortion policies have matured over the years.
Many who support the concept of abortion highlight a fact that during the first trimester of pregnancy, a fetus can't live independently of its mother, that is, it has to depend on her mother for food and essential nutrients. This makes it a part of mother's life and it is hence, the choice of mother to do whatever she can with her body. Now, although this argument may not sound very strong, it has been used by pro-abortion supporters for encouraging abortion during first three months into pregnancy. One of the abortion facts is that, it has led to an unprecedented increase in teenage pregnancy. Moreover, girls in teenage years are physically and mentally not ready to share the responsibility of handling a child. Consequently, many have to give up their education, feed the child and end up in a great financial mess. This is probably the most sound argument for promoting abortion, if need be, in the US.
Further, those who oppose abortion also argue that, if it is the civil right of women to abort a child, she must also have an understanding and responsibility of avoiding unwanted pregnancy. But then, pro-choice supporters seem to be right in asking for an abortion, if the woman has been raped or her pregnancy has resulted due to incest. After all, it's not at all easy for a woman to give birth to a child that hasn't been her choice. Similarly, various post abortion syndrome like health risks are negatives of abortion.
As we can see, there are both sides to the abortion debate and it will always remain a very controversial issue in social sphere. The debate on this topic is, for sure, never going to end as both sides can come up with various arguments.
