Abnormal Ovarian Cyst: All The Information You Ever Wanted To Know
This articles discusses abnormal ovarian cyst and all its related issues. Find out how to diagnose and cure your abnormal ovarian cyst.
Female hormones and imbalances in them can be blames for abnormal cysts such as endometrioma cyst, adenoma cyst, dermoid cyst and PCOS. These hormones are estrogen and progesterone. Functional cysts and abnormal cysts are not the same. Abnormal cysts happen from abnormal cell growths. But they are not cancerous – they are mostly benign. Researchers are working to know why they are abnormal. It might be the case that cysts remain within the body for an eternity and yet cause no problem but in some cases they may burst and so surgery might be required. We are studying these cysts in detail here.
Dermoid Cyst
Skin and hair and other tissues make up these cysts. Cystic teratoma is the medical name as they have mature skin that has hair follicles, sweat glands, cartilage, nails, bone, blood, teeth, fat, sebum, eyes and thyroid tissues too. They are benign because of the mature tissues that they have. But when they develop into ‘Squamous Cell Carcinoma’, they turn malignant – but this is rare. In babies and children, it may lead to ‘Endodermal Sinus Tumor’.
Periorbital Dermoid Ovarian Cysts
They may develop even among small children and in them they are seen on the lateral aspect of the eyebrows. They feel like rubber and sometimes they are excised, and at other, they are watched. When they get disrupted, they may inflame. And in cases where they are not excised completely, such cysts may return. But complete excision may not be the way to go, particularly in the cases where there is a ‘Dumbbell Configuration’ because the excision may have to go through the suture line of the skull.
Cannot be Equated with Pilonidal Cyst
It may be a problem to distinguish from pilonidal ovarian cyst due to its presence in the nose, sinus, head, under the tongue and other parts. This is because both of them have hair. Pilonidal sinus is also used to refer to the ‘pilonidal cyst’, particularly when it gets obstructed. The teratoma close to the body’s surface might become a sinus or a fistula. There can also be a cluster. Sacrococcygeal Fistula is also used to refer to the pilonidal cyst – this is used for any dermal infection close to the tailbone that leads to a good deal of pain.
Differential Diagnosis
There are a lot of similarities between the pilonidal cyst and the dermoid cyst and it is the maximum due to the presence of the Germ Cell Tumour. Whenever there is a teratoma it means that surgery is essential and this is why it has to be diagnosed properly. But the surgery needs to be carried out without any spillage and so the oncologist must be reputed.
Endometrioma Cyst
It gets formed when tissues that look like the lining of the uterus attaché themselves to the ovaries. They are also referred to as chocolate cysts.
Cyst Adenoma Cyst
When the cyst develops from the ovaries’ outer surface this name is given to it. The largest tumour within us is the mucinous cyst adenomas. The Mucinous Cyst adenoma within the ovary may be as big as 149 kg or 328 lb. Mostly they are seen when the person is young and the tumours are unilateral. Though the alteration can happen, but it is quite rare. But since the potential remains, it is important to identify and treat them.
Mutinous cyst adenomas belong to asymptomatic cysts. But they are still there in women because of mass in the abdomen. Thus the gynaecologic test becomes important to identify them and find out the source of non specific abdominal complains. Suspicion must be maintained for pelvic pathology.
Polycystic Cyst in the Ovary
These are the cysts that get formed from the follicle cysts because the ovaries have become thick. When the ovaries become thick, the thicker outer side prevents the ovulation from taking place. This may be bad news for fertility too. Also known as PCOS, this is an abnormal cyst in the ovary.
