A Whole New World: Part 3
Mooooore! :)
"Let's skip this joint, Liz," Cain suggested.
"Cain, we can't," I replied.
'Skipping the joint' was something Cain suggested every Friday night. After every football game, he suggested we leave the stadium and go back to his house. We both knew what would happen if we went, and I wasn't ready to go that far.
"I know, I know. You're not ready," he groaned.
I laughed. "No, I meant we can't do that because we perform again post-game. We won't be back in time," I replied.
"Ugh!" Cain growled.
"Hey, I'll make you a deal. I'll call Em and ask if she'll cover for me. Then I'll call Mom. And after the game, we'll go back to you house," I negotiated.
Cain nodded. I pulled out my phone and called Emily.
"Hey girl."
"Hey, what's going on? How's the game going? The show?" Emily fired quickly.
I laughed. "The game's going okay. We're winning-barely-and the show went great. I need a favor from you," I replied.
"What's up?"
"I need you to cover for me," I said.
"For what? Liz, what do you have planned?" Em asked, concern lacing her voice.
"I'm going to call Mom and tell her I'm coming to your house for the night. I'll tell her you need help with your Chemistry homework. Then-"
"Liz, I don't need help with my Chemistry homework," Emily objected, sounding offended, "Actually, I finished it already."
I groaned. "Em, I know you don't need help with it. That's just what I'm going to tell Mom. I'm going to stay with Cain for the night. Will you cover or not?" I asked impatiently.
"Yeah, sure. But Liz, be careful. Don't do anything stupid," Emily warned.
"Thanks. I owe you!"
I hung up and winked at Cain. I flipped open my phone again.
"Hey Mom!" I cried.
"Hey honey. How's it going?" my mom asked.
"Everything's great. The team is winning the game-barely-and the show was a smash, as always," I explained.
"That's wonderful. Did you need anything, sweetie?" Mom asked, sounding concerned.
"Yeah, um, Em just called. She wanted to know if I would be able to spend the night at her house. She needs some help with her Chemistry homework," I asked.
"After the football game?"
"Yeah. Cain already said he'd drop me off, and Em said she'd bring me home." I gave Cain a wink.
"Do you have extra clothes with you?"
"Yeah, in my guard bag. I can call you when I get to Em's house if you want me to," I offered.
"Oh no, honey. There's no need. Just be careful, and don't stay up too late," mom said with a chuckle.
"No problem. Thanks. Love you."
I hung up and turned to Cain.
"You're smooth," Cain commented as we started back to the stands.
"No, Mom just trusts me," I said simply.
**
"Ready to skip?" Cain asked as we headed out of the stadium.
The butterflies in my stomach went wild. I smiled. "Yeah."
I waved goodbye to the rest of the band as I climbed into Cain's beat up Chevy Cavalier. As Cain revved the engine, I began to get butterflies in my stomach again.
**
"Liz, you seem tense. What's wrong?" Cain asked.
"Nothing," I lied, "I'm fine."
The two of us sat in Cain's living room, watching a movie. He had his arm wrapped around my waist, holding me close to him.
"Do you want something to drink?" he asked.
"Sure. What do you have?" I asked.
"Um, water, soda, I think there might be some lemonade. Mom's got Peach Coolers..."
"Mmm...Peach Coolers."
"I'll be right back." Cain left the living room and returned a few seconds later with our drinks.
~A few drinks later~
"Hey Liz, what'r ya' thinkin'?" Cain asked.
"I dunno. What'r you thinkin'? I replied.
"I'm thinkin' 'bout how I'ma getchu outta them clothes," Cain admitted.
I laughed.
"Why're you laughin' at me?" he asked.
"I dunno. It just seemed a lil' funny ta me," I answered.
I took another drink of my Peach Cooler and leaned into Cain's chest. I could hear his heat pounding. He leaned down and kissed me passionately on the lips.
"You wanna?" he asked.
"Yeah."
"Cain, we can't," I replied.
