A Treasure Hunt on a River - Pirate Birthday Party Ideas Toronto
Paddle down the river dressed as a pirate for the birthday party of the year. Start this 4 hour pirate adventure with a partial map. Raft together in search of the coordinates that unlock the treasure.
Even clever pirates (adults) take over 4 hours to solve. The treasure hunt is designed so that one raft can do the quest or a number of rafts can compete. The goal… to use everyone’s imagination… to have fun finding the treasure.
This pirate rafting adventure is hosted one hour west of Toronto just off the 403 Highway. The arrival destination is near the town of Paris. The river paddled is called the Grand River in Southern Ontario. This easy flowing river averages about 1 meter in depth, allowing children and non-swimmers to safely enjoy.
This river paddling adventure is done in rafts. Rafts are the preferred option because they don’t tip. These boats are stable and people can stand up and move around in them. Being in one boat allows the pirates to talk together in solving the clues while they paddle. Size, skill and age are not limiting factors to participation. For non-swimmers, stability means safety!
How the adventure works; the group arrives dressed as pirates, each raft is given a chest and the group opens it before starting. The chest contains a letter, an envelope of seven clues and an incomplete map. Included are tools and objects needed to figure out or find the clues. There is also a guide on each raft to help the group if they become stumped. It is said there is a booty share for the guide’s answers!
When the group has solved the clues, they put them together to create a working map. And once the crew has the map, they have to find the place! The given clues still take the pirates through a treachery of decisions to locate the treasure. And of course when found… the "booty" is always shared.
Upon locating the treasure, groups can be shuttled back to their vehicles for homeward bound. There is also the opportunity to have a barbeque along the river for the birthday party. Pirate crews can bring their own food or have a catered barbeque hosted.
Another option is to dine in Paris. Paris has a number of family-friendly eateries from Mac Donald’s to the award winning ribs of Camp 31. There is also steaks at the Cedar House or the riverside Café du Paris.
Overnight accommodations vary from camping where the river barbeque was hosted, to Conservation Authority trailer parks, Bed & Breakfasts or hotels. Staying at Paris is definitely an option. The unique central location of this town offers over 150 other different activities to do nearby.
Pirate Treasure Hunt or no Treasure Hunt… a birthday rafting party on the Grand River in an amazing wilderness experience… it is an adventure that will not be forgotten.
