A Teenage Crisis - Chapter 11
Sorry if this one sucks...will write more b/c I know its so short.
Kaylin watched as James crumpled to the floor. A mere second later a man resembling James materialized out of nowhere holding up a necklace as if to examine its sheer quality. He quickly pocketed it with a flushed face. "Damn it Tinzy! What now?" Just one glance around the room and he knew. He absorbed the scene quickly: Tinzy kneeling next to his younger brother James, and his mother Antoinette clutching some girl away from James. He locked his gaze with Tinzy's and he understood all. Quickly he picked James up and took him to a room with a very comfortable looking bed. All others followed but before Kaylin could enter the room, Jack smiled at her and told her to wait outside with him.
After a brief introduction, Kaylin asked Jack if James would be okay. Her face was full of worry and near sadness, though Kaylin herself didn't know why, Jack understood almost all too well.
"My little brother will be fine! He has been through worse than this dumb demon bite. No need to worry at all!"
She looked at Jack and couldn't help but compare the two brothers. James with his dark and mysterious ways annoyed her. On top of that his complete and utter tendency to hate all demons, including her, since she was, in a way, part demon. Meanwhile, Jack was gorgeous, without a doubt. With a perfect nose, dark brown eyes, ruffled hair that looked all too much like a birds nest, yes, Jack looked like a celebrity that just woke up in the morning: perfect.
"Yeah, just don't get too attached to me or Tinzy will be fuming." He smirked at her as if to point out that, yes, he can read her mind. Now she immediately saw him in a different view. He loved Tinzy. This made Kaylin respect him, and view him now, as an older brother. "The part about James though is a whole other matter all together." Kaylin asked him what he meant by that but all Jack did was give her a sympathetic smile before he left to check on James.
Kaylin sat there for a moment lost for a second. ::Dardon?::
::Yes Kaylin?::
::I need to be alone for a while.:: He said nothing back until suddenly Kaylin felt her mind empty and Dardon was kneeling right next to her.
::Take all the time you need.:: He got up and went through the opposite wall. Funny, Kaylin thought, how she didn't even question why he was incorporeal then. She figured she'd ask later. Kaylin walked some ways before she managed to quietly exit the strange knick-knack shop. She soon found herself out on the street where nothing seemed real.
Small booths lined the street in both directions. Smells permeated the air that made Kaylin want to vomit. It was amazing that she could still stand. Not knowing which way to go she just let her feet carry her to wherever she felt like going. She looked to her left and saw vendors selling weird things like blood candles and voodoo dolls, magic potions, amulets, rings and expensive looking jewelry. They also sold clothes and shoes, and not, as Kaylin saw, old-fashioned items, but top of the line like Gucci, Giorgio Armani, Versace, Louis Vuitton and much to Kaylin's delight, a super-sexy pair of Jimmy Choo's. Okay, Kaylin knew she was not by any means a girlie-girl, but that didn't mean that she couldn't tell an Oscar de la Renta gown from a knockoff.
The next booth that she had wandered to sold books. All the texts sold there looked old, musty and heavy. The bored looking vendor was a blonde with forest green eyes and olive skin who just happened to be reading a tome titled, "Labyrinthine Theories of Archaic Magic". Not something Kaylin would be caught dead reading, because not only did the words hurt her brain, the fact that a girl who looked to be her age was almost finished reading it, really hurt her self-esteem.
The blonde vendor looked up and put on an obvious false smile, "What can I help you with doll?" Kaylin blushed somewhat as she tried to hold the girl's gaze yet failed. In a weird and nervous panic, she looked around and grabbed a certain book that seemed to be glowing amidst the piles and piles of tomes.
"How much for this?"
The vendor looked at her with a creepy soul-searing gaze, "Well doll, what have you got?"
"Excuse-"
"Okay I know you are not from our side so I'm gonna be nice and tell you this only once. You want something around here, you have to give something in return and it's not gonna cost you human money. Sometimes you have to bargain whether it be information, a lock of hair or part of your own soul." The way she was looking at Kaylin made Kaylin want to run at that moment. However, she stood her ground holding the book in her sweaty hands. The vendor held out her hand, "So what's it gonna be doll?"
Kaylin secretly wiped her hand before holding hers out as well. Then they shook on it. Except that was what Kaylin thought was supposed to happen. She felt her mind being forced into, not at all like Jack did. Her head was being invaded, dark hands with sharp nails were clawing their way around inside her mind, sorting information about herself and where she had come from, who she knew around here until-
The vendor let go and was breathing pretty hard. Kaylin noticed that the girl's hair had changed to a lovely auburn and her eyes went from forest green to crystal blue. "The book is yours. Now leave."
Kaylin stood dumbfounded by not only how quickly the girl closed up shop but of course what had transpired between them two. What exactly had happened between the girl and I, Kaylin thought. She slowly went back towards the knick-knack shop and went inside, locked the door and then fell to the ground, completely drained. The last thing she heard before she fell asleep in the middle of the shop was Dardon's voice.
