A Teenage Crisis - Chapter 12b

Kaylin. Taht's all you need to know. Kaylin.
Chapter 12b

*Kaylin*
I am alone. There is nobody here. Dardon is gone. Jack and Tinzy are both gone. James is gone too. I am gone. Why isn't anybody trying to save me? Can't they see I am in trouble? That I need their help, isn't that their job, to save and protect me? I look around in my Mind Space and it's completely dark. Void. Why am I here alone? Where are they? Where is James? Why isn't he here? He was always there! Why not now when I need him the most...

Inside Kaylin's Mind Space, she really was alone. She felt empty without a demon. She kept hearing the name Kuzac. It felt needy almost hungry. The name also boasted power. Kuzac was perfection. He would save her. Kaylin knew he would.

She stood in the dark void that was her Mind Space and braced for pain. ZZZZZZZZEPPPPPTTTTTTT! An electric like shock bolted itself into her entire body all at once. She gritted her teeth, wincing in pain. Again, ZZZZZEPPPPPPPTTTTTT! Her eyes watered as the shock became more intense. Before the next wave of pain came, she felt the enormity of its attack. All she could do was close her eyes tight. "I hate them." She whispered fiercely. Then the pain came, leaving her in a crumpled heap.

*James*
James wound his way to the library, which he had often frequented in his younger years, only to discover the place full of dust and cobwebs. "It looks like nobody has been in here since I had left." He said to himself.

"Yes of course. You were quite the bookworm after all," replied the wolf inside James' head.

"I still am the bookworm."

"Not in the least."

"Oh shut up."

James walked around the seemingly small library then looked up towards the ceiling. Row after row, there were shelves lined with books, notebooks, notes and papers of everything imaginable. Mainly his father's work and translation of other documents, James, as a kid, had sifted and filtered through them hungrily. He knew practically everything written in the library and started remembering bits and pieces of a certain book labeled "Prophecy". Following the stairs leading towards the upper sections, he quickly found the book and began to read:

"Mammon shall have all and nothing... Love shall break free from him... Seeds shall be sown... Symbol of love... keys to the prevention of Mammon's absolute dominion... the Inheritor's greatest love... his strongest hate... The Lost one must come willingly to their aid in time... Save the Rarities..."

Abruptly, James stopped reading, and strained his ears. "I could have sworn I heard something."

"Yes me as well." The wolf agreed.

James put down the manuscript; slowly he walked towards the railing looking down and listened. It was completely silent. He was just about to shrug it off until he heard the tiniest of movements, almost like a bump against a wall. That was all the confirmation he needed to launch himself, up and over the railing, down towards the lower level onto a table.

Landing hard he jumped onto the next table then the next, until he hit the ground. Swinging open the library door, he ran down the hall and didn't even hesitate to break down the target door; the door which easily opened up to an empty bedroom, a bedroom which should have held a sleeping Kaylin. "Damn it!"

Rushing out of the doorway he found himself heading towards the kitchen. Before he even looked into the kitchen he felt Kaylin's presence. It was overwhelmingly strong; her power was so massive that it nearly brought him to his knees in his. James already knew she felt his presence, how could she not? He took a deep breath before walking into the kitchen doorway, where he saw her sitting on the table as if waiting for him.

Kaylin looked different. The innocent look in her eyes was gone, replaced with a cold dangerous glare of a being full of ancient wisdom. When James stared at her eyes he nearly choked; gone were the determined maple brown color that had always gazed upon him accusingly. Her eyes were inky black, a dark void that didn't end.

"Kaylin...?"

"Is there any other?"

"How did you get out of the room? It was locked."

"Yes it was. Let that be the last time you, or anyone else for that matter, lock me up like some rabid animal."

"It was for-"

"Do not insult me with that piece of crap lie," Kaylin's eyes glistened in a murderous rage, "I know how much you hate me, how much you all hate me! You all from the so-called Guard would no sooner save me then you would Mammon! Admit it! Even now I could feel your hatred towards me, a hatred that I do not deserve because I have not done a thing towards you!"

"Kaylin you need to calm down. You aren't well." James tried his best to maintain a calm front.

"No. You are the one who is not well. You could have admitted your feelings towards me instead of pushing me away, showing me absolute disgust and hatred towards a part of me that I didn't even know." With each biting word thrown at James, Kaylin moved slowly towards him. Now, she was but mere inches away from him. The small form that was Kaylin writhed with a fierce energy and deadly power. If James did not move soon, he was going to die by the pure intensity of it all.

*Kaylin*

Kaylin felt her face smile. She could feel his discomfort. Good. He deserves nothing less than death. He left me all alone, James; the one person who I thought for sure would always come to my rescue. I am going to crush him!

"Tell me James, when did you get that wolf in your head? Before or after killing Thune, the last remaining wolf demon?" Kaylin noticed James' face go blank. "Yes I know all about your little escapade in that demon village. You slaughtered hundreds of innocents in your anger. What could have gotten you that upset? My, oh my..."

Slowly she circled around James, his hands clenching and unclenching at each thing she said. "Was it because you had an unwanted demon in you? Or was it because you wanted to prevent the prophecy from coming true? Ha! Either way, what's done is done. You are as pathetic now as you were then and you always will be!"

James' eyes were shut, jaw clenched, and his hands were shaking. "Where are you coming up with all of this?"

"I have my sources." She smiled at him almost playfully. "Okay it's only once source but I know for a fact that it's a very reliable one. You might have met him once? Oh wait, no, that was your brother. Anyway, my source is the best thing that has ever happened to me. He was there when you weren't. He was the one who saved me, unlike you."

"Stop playing your games with me." James did not move an inch as she tiptoed and her lips found its way close to his ear.

"Kuzac," Kaylin whispered, "His name is Kuzac, and he loves me."

Saying this Kaylin pushed James against the wall, kicking upwards towards his face. The powerful kick landed but missed its intended mark; instead of hitting his temple, James dodged at the last second, the kick connected to his cheek. Already Kaylin could smell the iron tang of blood that was forming in James' mouth.

"Kaylin I don't want to hurt you!" James shouted despite his blood filled-mouth.

"Hurt me?!" Kaylin moved back from James holding him in place with the tiniest of efforts. "The only one I see getting hurt is you." Kaylin focused her stare directly at his throat and thought of choking the life out of him. She felt her Mind Space rush out at him, doing what she wanted, exactly how she saw it would be. She noticed how James started to choke, his eyes started to water, his breaths became more ragged as she continued to close up his airway. She stopped just before his eyes started to close. He let out a deep breath and slumped down. Kaylin stared at him as he regained his senses, looked up at her with question.

"I am not going to kill you. No, you are going to suffer, just how I had to suffer by myself. No one is going to save you, just how you didn't come to my rescue." She didn't even take note of his confusion.

Striding close up to James, Kaylin swiftly picked him up, holding his face between her small hands. She changed her eye color back to normal, "James, I used to love you despite the hatred you had shown me. You are going to wish you had treated me fairly."
Kaylin walked down the street past the vendors with their small shops. It was dark, closing time. She inhaled and the scent of sweat perfumed the air. Disgusting creatures, how I hate them all.

Moving with a fierce sense of purpose, she wound her way around and past people to a small side street. There she started moving her arms with certainty, circling them over her head in sure patterns, as if she had done them for years. Suddenly a dark red glow formed in front of Kaylin; from there emerged a tall dark figure.

"You are Kuzac."

"Yes."

"Good, I have something mammon would like to see."

"Oh? And what is that, my beloved?"

Kaylin reached into her pocket and pulled out a necklace with a broken piece of metal set as its pendant. "I pulled this off the neck of that horrible James."

"Is he dead?"

"He's as good as dead. He will neither know who nor what he is by daybreak."

"Ah, I see. Having fun with your Mind Space?"

"Yes I am. Now, can we please go back to more important matters? As you can imagine I am going to have a very long discussion with Mammon. Take me to him."

"Of course I will."

They both smiled as the red glow of light formed once again, enveloping both of their bodies. "Together with my beloved at last," Kaylin whispered as she held onto Kuzac's strong body.
