Chapter - 6
Seeing DJ coming out of my neighboring house, I blushed. I don't know why, but I did ! Seriously, I've never been much of a blushy-kinds gal, still....
For a few moments,I simply stared at him, open-mouthed. Then finally deciding that he was not a hallucination, I turned ahead, ready to cycle ahead. Won't he find it strange if he caught me staring at me like that?!
But a call from him held me back....
He said aloud, "Hey Sarah, hold on. Please let me join you."
I paused to let him join me. When he came up, he was smiling...THAT SMILE...
Gosh-gosh-gosh, that smile....It just swept me off my foot. I had tiny butterflies fluttering in my stomach. I'd never seen a smile like that. Gosh, why was I thinking about a guy like this?? What was happening to me?!
Anyway, he was looking really happy and relaxed, not at all like the stressed - DJ I'd seen in the classroom.
"Hii ! What the hell are you doing here?" He asked curiously.
"Well, my family just moved in your neighboring house a week ago, if that is your house", I answered nervously. Huh, boys make me nervous....
"Oh, so that truck with so much cargo was yours! My mother told me to say hello to your family, but I didn't have time earlier. Maybe, soon my mom will meet yours, she likes socializing.", he said.
"Oh really? That's nice. Anyway, I'm going now to look around this colony. So see you in school then.Bye.", I said, blushing harder each second. Gosh, boys make me so nervous, I told you...
"No, wait. I can show you around this place. C'mon don't worry," he said assuringly....
W-O-W.....'don't worry'....Nobody had ever taken charge of things for me before. His voice was so comforting. Ummmm - I liked to hear him talk, his smile.......I sort-of moved into a trance....
That trance was broken only when he came back with his cycle and started waving his hand in front of me. Coming back to myself, I mumbled a stupid excuse about being lost in memories of my previous place, which, thankfully, he didn't find absurd, and accepted without a comment.
So we started cycling around. He showed me all the nearby places. After about half an hour, I realized that I wasn't feeling at all shy with him. I felt comfortable in talking with him. No awkward communication gaps....
Then suddenly after a small turn on the road, we reached a lonely and deserted lane. The sun had set in.It was getting darker....Twilight was enhancing the beauty of this avenue... the eucalyptus trees, their waving leaves, the dying chirp of birds who were going to go to sleep now....
"Hey Sarah, will you be my friend?" He asked casually.
I was taken aback. If it had been any other boy, I guess I would have taken out a wrong meaning of this question... But he'd said it so casually, his face was so solemn, so innocent; so much in need of a companion that I found myself saying a meek 'yes' to him, cuz I just-just-just could NOT resist him....
