A Summer To Remember Chapter 5

I laid in my bed unable to sleep, on the count of Regina's snoring. I laid there thinking about the events of the night. We decided to have a beach party with pizza and taco's. I ordered pizza from a local pizza spot that Lorenz suggested and he went and got some taco's from Taco Bell. We changed into our swimsuits and headed for the beach. Brady started a fire since he and Lorenz were the only ones who knew how. I laid my beach towel on the sand while Stacey and Reggie ran into the ocean. I laid on my towel looking up at the starry night sky when Brady came and laid down next to me.

"Beautiful isn't it." he said looking up at the sky.
"Yeah."
"So what's up with you and this Lorenz dude... are you guys together?" he asked.
"Kind of. I mean it's nothing serious... at least I think it's not." I said looking over at him. His emerald green eyes sparkled in the moon light.

It's no secret that Brady and I used to date back in high school. We were the it couple up until junior year. I don't know what happened, but by the middle of the year we weren't together anymore. The breakup was both our idea and there were no hard feelings. I loved Brady and I knew he loved me, but deep down I think we both knew we were better off as friends. When he started dating Reggie I wasn't mad. Reggie's a great girl and he's a great guy, I'm happy for them.

"Does he know that you're going to Paris?" Brady asked.
"No... I didn't think it mattered. He knows I'm only here for the summer."
"What if this guy really likes you and you not telling him you're moving over seas could give him false hope. What if he decided to follow you to New York... what then." I didn't know what to say, so I didn't say anything. Instead I got up and ran to the water with Reggie and Stacey.
"You can't run forever!" he shouted and he was right. I can't run forever. I was going to have to face it sooner or later, but I wasn't ready for that.
"What were you guys talking about?" Reggie asked.
"Nothing important." I said with a smile.

We were having so much fun. Greg had brought his guitar and was playing music as we danced. I danced with Lorenz, Reggie, Stacey, and Brady. Gavin sat on the towel watching us laughing at Reggie and her bad dancing. She walked over to Gavin and pulled him up and made him dance with her. Then Stacey pulled him away and they danced. I was dancing with Brady when Stacey pushed him over to me and Greg started to play a slow song. Reggie grabbed Lorenz before he came over to me. I held my hand out for Gavin to take and he did. So there we were dancing together uncomfortably.

"We need to talk." Gavin whispered in my ear.
"You wanna go to the patio?" I asked.
"We should go inside where they can't watch us." he suggested.
"Yeah... that would be better." I said smiling. We started to walk toward the house arm in arm.
"Where are they going?" Lorenz asked Reggie.
"They have somethings they need to sort out before the summer is over." she said to him.

In the house Gavin and I sat on the sofa in silence at first. I didn't know what he wanted to talk about, but I knew it was about what was bothering him. He sat there staring at me nervously. We had been friends all our lives and this was the first time we were nervous around each other. This trip was suppose to be our last bit of fun before we went our separate ways, but all it did was create conflict and tension between us.

"What I want to talk to you about is..." he stopped mid sentence.
"It's about what's bothering you right?" I asked with a smile.
"Yeah... the thing is... I think I'm in love with you and have been for years, but I wasn't sure if you felt the same." So there it was the thing that had been eating at Gavin the whole trip.
"Y-You you l-love me."

I was shocked yet a little happy. I had said I was starting to feel things for Gavin, but wasn't sure about how he felt. Which would explain the reason I was feeling jealous when Gavin was with Crystal. Then it hit me. Gavin was jealous of me hanging with Lorenz. That's why he was acting so strangely. I then remembered Lorenz and how I was kind of dating him. That thought made me think about what Brady said. I couldn't run forever. Especially not now that Gavin confessed his love for me. My heart was conflicted. I had feeling for both Gavin and Lorenz and there was still a week in our vacation. So after Gavin and I talked we went back outside.

"So what did he want to talk about?" Reggie asked when I walked up.
"Not here." I whispered and started walking along the beach.
"We'll be right back!" Stacey yelled as we walked.
"So what did he say?" Reggie asked again.
"He told me that he loved me." I said picking up a sea shell.
"And what did you say?" Stacey asked.
"I didn't say anything... I didn't know what say."
"I'm not surprised... your head is obviously clouded by Lorenz." Reggie said.
"You act like I've committed a crime and why aren't you surprised he said he loved me?"
"Well we already knew and thought if we bailed out on the first two week you'd be together when we did come." Stacey blurted out.
"So you planed this."
"Yeah, but you screwed it up by hanging out with other people." Reggie said.
"I can't believe you guys." I stormed off down the beach. Lorenz saw me and came running after me. While Reggie and Stacey walked back to the house.
"Hey wait up!" he yelled. When he finally caught up with me he was out of breath. "What's wrong?" he asked trying to catch his breath.
"Nothing... just friend stuff." I said grabbing his arm.

We walked along the shore until we could no longer see the house. Which was good that way Gavin couldn't see me hugging and kissing him. Lorenz was the first guy I had talked to since Brady and I broke up. Though I didn't know how serious our relationship was I didn't care. I was having too much fun too. We sat on the beach staring up at the sky. I laid my head on his shoulder.

I was enjoying the moment. It was like a scene from the movies. Just that fast it was ruined when it began to rain. We ran back to the house trying not to get wet, but it was to late. We were soaked and I was freezing. All I had on was purple bikini. When we got back to the house my hair was dripping and I was shaking. A look of concern shot across Gavin's face.

"Give them a towel!" Reggie shouted. Stacey then ran over and handed us towels.
"You should hurry up and change." Greg said to me.
"Yeah... s-s-somebody g-g-give Lorenz the u-umbrella over t-t-there." I said shivering.

Reggie gave him the umbrella and he left. I ran upstairs to change, but my body shutdown before I even reached the landing. I came tumbling back down the steps. Ever since I was a child I had a weak immune system and would get sick all the time.

"Oh my gosh! Steph!" Reggie yelled running over to me along with everyone else.
"Is she conscious?" Gavin asked running over.
"Her eyes are open, but she's not saying anything!" Reggie said starting to cry.
"Steph can you hear me." Gavin said. "Stacey call 911... I'm a put her on the sofa." he said picking me up and carrying me to the sofa. I could hear and see, but every time I tried to speak nothing would come out.
"The ambulance is on its way." Stacey said walking over to the sofa.
"I'll go get some clothes." Reggie said pulling herself together and ran upstairs.
"Brady call Mr. Brown." Gavin said.

He was great in a crisis. He always stayed so calm, while everyone else panicked. Reggie came running back downstairs with a pair of jeans and t-shirt. She and Stacey put them on me. She also put pair of socks on my feet. When the ambulance had finally came Gavin rode with me to the hospital. Lorenz had ran out his house to see what was going on. Reggie told him and he drove up to the hospital with them. The doctors said I had a mild fever and should stay in bed for a few days. They had given me some type of medication that would help with the back pain I had from falling down the stairs.

My dad had called my mother who was about to hop on the next plane out here before I talked to her. I was released from the hospital later. When we got back to the house everyone was treating me like a helpless baby. So I laid in the bed unable to sleep with Reggie snoring so loudly. I got up quietly making sure I don't wake Reggie. I slowly opened the door and walked out. Closing it softly and backing away. I turned around and walked straight into Gavin.

"And where do you think you're going?" he asked.
"I can't sleep in there with her snoring like that."
"Come on." he said grabbing my hand and pulling me into his room. "Brady... Brady... go sleep in Steph's room with Reg." he said pushing Brady out the door.
"Thanks." I said.
"You know you really had everyone worried... especially me."
"Sorry... I didn't mean to make you guys worry."
"Steph you know I love you and if something ever happened to you... I don't know what I'd do." he said putting his head down so I wouldn't see him about to cry. And without thinking I lifted his head and kissed him.
"Look... I don't know if I love you like you love me, but I do know that you'll never loose me. I'll always be here."
He held me in his arms until I fell asleep. It had been a long day. Full of plenty of drama. My life was turning into one big TV show. It had love, hate, jealousy, arguments, fun, confusion, and lots and lots of drama. As I laid in Gavin's arms I wondered what tomorrow would bring. Hopefully nothing life changing. I've had enough for one summer.
