Epilogue

"Are you nervous?" Cassy had her phone to her ear. She was struggling with her bag as she flung it around her shoulder. "I am so nervous. I barely slept last night. I can’t believe I’m going to college today," she said and started walking downstairs. She stopped when she got to the bottom and gently ran her finger over the framed sketch Charlie sketched for her. Her heart warmed every time she saw that. Her parents and Jeremy were in Chicago and she got to stay at the beach house since it was close to her college. She heard Charlie laugh over the phone and felt butterflies in her stomach. She smiled to herself. Over the last few months, they had called each other every day and talked on Skype most nights. "So don’t you get scared at night all alone in that house?" Charlie asked. "I’ll admit it’s really quiet but I’ll get used to it," she said and opened the front door and stepped out. She laughed half heartedly. "I feel like I'm over reacting. I mean, you're probably not even a bit as nervous as I am," she said and pinched her cell between her cheek and shoulder so she could lock the door. "I’m actually really psyched. I mean, it's college, high school's over," he said. Cassy laughed. She looked out and saw Tia waiting for her on the beach. "Hold on. Hey, Tee!" she called out after closing the talk end of her phone.

Tia looked at her and walked over. Cassy put the phone back to her ear. "I’ve gotta go now." She sighed. "I really miss you right now," she said. "I miss you, too. I can’t wait to see you again," he said. Cassy felt her heart drop a little. She was gonna have to wait a few more months before she could see Charlie again. She could hardly go the last few months without him. She missed everything about him. His smell, his touch, his kiss . . . She sighed again and Tia came up next to her. "Me neither. I’ll call you again after class," she said to him. They said good-bye and Cassy put her phone in her jean pocket. She looked at Tia and they started walking to the college. "You really miss him don’t you, Cass?" Tia asked. "Yeah, I can’t help it, Tee," Cassy said. "Well how are you holding up?" Tia asked. Cassy sighed. "I don’t know. Sometimes I feel ok and other times I feel like I’m gonna die if I don’t see him soon," she said. They walked up to the college and stood close to one of the fountains, talking before they had to get to their classes. "I don’t know, Tee. I guess I’ll be ok.

I mean, I’ll get to see him in three months," Cassy said. Her heart sank a little lower. Three months is very long. A quarter of a year, she realized. Tia nodded and looked past her and her eyes lit up. "Oooh, hot guy behind the fountain checking you out," Tia said in a flirty tone as she kept on staring behind Cassy. Cassy rolled her eyes. "Have you even been listening, Tia? I don’t care. I love Charlie," Cassy said a little irritated. Tia looked back at her. "Oh, I think you’ll make an exception for this one," Tia said and spun Cassy around so she could see. Cassy tried to protest but once she saw who Tia was talking about her eyes widened and her heart started pounding. "Charlie?" She ran up to him and threw her arms around him. He wrapped his arms around her waist and hugged her tightly.

He spun her around a few times. Cassy felt her heart pound as she inhaled his scent again. "What are you doing here?" she asked not letting go of him. He stopped spinning her and set her down. Her heart was singing with joy. "I’m heading for my first day of college," he said softly. She loosened her grip on him so she could look at him. For a few seconds she forgot everything and just stared at him. She couldn’t believe he was actually there with her! She found herself staring at his amazing eyes. A familiar feeling crept up in her body. She couldn’t describe the emotion of feeling so close to Charlie again. She was over the moon that he was there with her! When she finally processed what he was saying her eyes widened in excitement. "You’re going to college here?" she asked. He smiled at her. "Not here exactly but it’s nearby. Turns out there are a few art colleges here. It works out for the best, I get my education and I get it in the company of the girl I’m in love with," he said.

Cassy felt an overflow of happiness bursting inside her. She lifted herself to his lips and kissed him. She felt her head spin a little as he deepened the kiss. She needed to feel his kiss before she could believe that he was really there and he was going to a college close to hers! She couldn’t be happier. She pulled him closer. Now she really knew she was going to be ok and at that moment, she couldn’t help but believe that her life was absolutely perfect. This was worth more than any heartache she could go through and she almost missed it. "Turns out you really can find love through a fling . . ."
