Chapter 24
Charlie hugged Tia as he said his good-byes to her. She hugged him back really tightly. "We're really gonna miss you," she said when they let go. Charlie smirked. "Same here," he said and looked at Cassy. She was hugging his mom. He smiled. Why was she so amazing? Couldn't they have lived closer to each other? Those, and a lot more questions, ran through his head as he watched her hug Chad. When she hugged Sierra he could see they were both starting to tear up. He walked over to her. He couldn't believe he was about to say goodbye to her. He didn't believe in long distance relationships but he was willing to try. She looked at him. She was smiling but he could see she was putting up a fight not to cry. She reached up and hugged him tightly. He got himself lost in her perfume and hug for a few seconds. Forgetting that he was about to get on a plane and not see her for who knows how long.
Cassy wrapped her arms around his neck a little tighter to help stop some of the tears that were threatening to spill over her cheeks. He let go a little and kissed her. Cassy felt a chill go down her body as she kissed him back. He broke the kiss and looked down at her. "I'm gonna miss you," he said. Cassy smiled and looked into his eyes. "I can't believe this," she said. He smirked. "That's what I've been telling myself since this morning," he confessed. They heard the announcement that the flight to New York was about to board. Cassy swallowed the lump in her throat. Her eyes were hurting from keeping the tears in. She was about to say bye to Charlie when he jumped in. "When you get home, check your bed. I left something for you," he said and winked at Tia. Cassy looked at Tia. She was smiling sneakily at her. Cassy looked back at Charlie. "You're not gonna tell me are you?" she asked.
He shook his head lightly. "No," he whispered. Cassy pecked him on the lips. "Bye, Charlie," she said. Sierra, Chad and Tia came over and they had a group hug together. "Bye, Cassy," Charlie whispered in her ear. Sierra and Chad said good-bye as well and they headed for the plane. Cassy watched as they disappeared. She let the tears silently roll down her face as she watched the plane take off a few minutes later.
Charlie sat by the window of the plane. He felt his heart sink for the fifth time that day. He felt Sierra's hand on his. He looked at her. She had tear stains down her face. "I'm gonna miss her too," she said softly. Charlie gave her a slight nod and an encouraging smile. "I know," he said and wiped some of the tear stains away. "So did you give it to her?" Sierra asked. Charlie smiled. "I gave it to Tia. She left it on her bed," Charlie said and looked out of the window of the plane. He watched as they got further and further away from the beach.
Cassy was silent as Tia dropped her off at her house. "Thanks, Tee," Cassy said and went into her house. She slowly went upstairs to her room. Jeremy came out of his room when she got to the top of the staircase. "Hey, Jer," she said sadly. "They're gone?" he asked. Cassy nodded. "Yeah," she said and sighed. "You ok?" Jeremy asked. Cassy managed a small smile. "I'll be fine." She walked over to her brother and hugged him. She felt him hug her back and instantly felt better. "Thanks for being there for me this summer, Jeremy," she said and let go of him. He smiled. "No problem, sis," he said. "No, I mean really, thanks for being there for me. I don't know where would I'd be without you," Cassy said. Jeremy smirked. "I think Charlie made you a little too dramatic this summer," he joked.
Cassy smiled. "Hey, I'm trying to thank you here," she said. Jeremy shrugged. "You're my little sister, its kind of my job," he said. "But still, thanks. You're the best brother in the world," she said and she knew she meant it. Jeremy opened his arms. "Need another hug?" he asked. Cassy smiled again. "See what i mean?" she asked and gave him another hug. Jeremy let go and she let go too. "And I'm sorry we never had our brother-sister bonding day this summer," Cassy said. Jeremy laughed. "Are you kidding? We bonded much more this summer than we ever would have even if we had a brother-sister bonding week," he said. Cassy laughed. "Yeah, I guess you're right," she said. Jeremy nodded and looked over her shoulder to her bedroom door. "You might wanna go see what Charlie left for you," he said and pointed at her room. Cassy gave him a confused expression before walking over to her room. She pushed open the door and saw a white rose with a big envelope under it on her bed. Cassy felt her heart racing in excitement.
She quickly went over and picked the rose and envelope up. She placed the rose on her pillow and sat down on her bed. She opened the envelope and took a page out. Her breath caught in her throat as she looked at the sketch in her hand. Her heart started racing again. It was a sketch of her and Charlie standing by the beach. The same picture Sierra had taken of them. Cassy felt tears of joy sting her eyes and her hands started shaking slightly. The original picture was stapled at the corner of it. She smiled and was surprised not to see tears cover her vision. She looked at Charlie in the sketch. Even in a sketch, she could see that he really does love her and she was sure both of them were going to be ok. She lifted her arm to see her bracelet and held it over the sketch. She smiled to herself. Yeah, it was going to be hard but they were going to be ok. They loved each other and love is stronger than any distance.
