A Special Life - Starring Avery Harrison
The first time you meet Avery is a 2:30. No I am not her, but I know someone like. And all the people. Except Max. He'll come later.
The worst part is he doesn't even know I exist. Thought a sleepy 12 year-old, who had just finished the fifth episode of "A Special Life." Of course she was tired, it was almost 2:30 in the morning, and she was not yet asleep. Soon her mother would come in to her room, get pissed, them usher her to get some rest. True it was late, true tomorrow, and true she had zero-period, but that didn't stop her from staying up to watch her favorite show.
She had been thinking about Max since episode one, just last year. He was hard to get out of your head, you know, once he's in there. She smiled. One day she would go down to L.A, or Hollywood, and she would find Max. But for now, she would have to fall asleep.
"Come on Avery. Avery.... hello are you still alive?" asked a nonchalant boy. He was 12, and Avery's good friend. Albert was Albert.
"Yeah. And unfortunately I'm stuck with you." She said, picking up her red backpack and rolling her eyes. It was a childish game to play now that they were both in Jr. High, but she just couldn't resist.
"Hey. I put up with you, you'll just have to put up with me." He smiled. He was a good smiler. But that's what his girlfriend thought too, so Avery never went there. But like she said before, are you old enough to have a girlfriend?
"So were you watching A Lame Life again?" He asked as they passed their 2nd period World History class. Somehow they had ended up with almost the same schedule.
"Yes." She said to tired to fight back.
"That's just great." He said apparently bored with her reaction "Hey, I'll see you later." And he was gone.
She made way to her 1st period math class even though it was half an hour since the class started. She was bored with life in Modesto. She desperately wanted out, and everyone knew that. But they all thought that she was stuck here.
You just watch. One day, I'll be outta here. That was the promise she had made to Albert, Timothy, and Joanna on the last day of grade 6. And now, Joanna was gone, Timothy was a prep, and Avery was bored with life. Don't give up, never give up, we won't stop till we reach the top.
She sat down at the chair in the back of the room and got out her homework and her daily review. She winkled her nose. She hated fractions. But there they were, just sitting on the board, mocking her. Avery was starring at those fractions as hard as she could and they wouldn't go away. I hate they frigging fractions. I can't stand them. They are the...
Suddenly there was they loudest high-pitched sound she had ever heard, but right before that there was the brightest flash of light. Light travels faster than sound. She thought as she rushed outside to the fence. Which she never understood. If kids wanted to escape, it would be so easy. Yet that's all it is, anyone could easily get in or out! But she hit the fence. Really, she actually ran into the fence and fell back on her butt, in-front of everybody.
"Are you okay?" someone said from behind her.
"Yeah." She said taking the hand without even looking at who it was. The hand was firm, like a boy's, yet, it was soft, like a familiar... thing. Avery had no idea whose it could be until a second later, when she looked up. "Oh. Hi August." She smiled. He had a few classes with her, but she didn't know him to well.
"Hey, you know my name." He said in awe as we walked to the fence. This time she didn't run into the fence.
"Yeah we have four classes together, 2nd through 5th period."
"Oh yeah. W.H., Science, P.E. And Lunch."
"Yeah."
"What's your name?"
"Oh. Uh... Avery."
"I like your name, it's not special, but it's nice."
"Thanks. My-"
"Alright kid, get back to class." shouted a severely unhappy Mr. Johnson.
"See you around August."
"Wait, at least give my your number!" he held out his left hand and a pen.
"Okay, okay. Slow it down drummer boy."
Avery took the pen and his hand and started to jot down her number. Suddenly some kid bumped into her. Without turning around she hit the kid, then continued with the number. "So-"
"We'll talk later." She said before walking off.
"Okay." August shouted before looking at his hand. On it, there was a scribbled mess along with a very messy message; I don't think so drummer boy.
