A Solar Powered Security Light - How to Install a Solar Motion Light
This article goes over some helpful tips and steps to install solar security lights, including positioning the solar motion light and mounting the mini solar panel for the solar powered security light on the roof, wall or building.
First, find a good spot to mount the solar powered security light, where you would like the solar motion light to shine. This should be someplace where the solar powered security light can detect a range of motion and where the solar motion light will also shine light where you need it. The surface should be fairly flat and suitable for mounting a solar motion light on it.
Next, find a good spot nearby to put the small solar panel that will charge up the batteries for the solar powered security light. It should face south and sit where the panel for the solar motion light can get exposure to full sunlight for as many hours as possible during the day. Look at the spot many times throughout a sunny day to make sure that location gets maximum sun for the solar motion light. Look for possible sources of shade, such as tree branches, overhangs and other structures, or anything else that might cast shade on the panel for your solar powered security light. The more hours of sunlight that the solar motion light’s panel gets, the better chance it will have to fully recharge the solar powered security light’s batteries each day.
A wire will connect the solar motion light and the mini solar panel. Measure the wire to see how long it is. Once you have chosen good locations for the solar powered security light and the solar panel, find a place where the wire can go between the solar panel and the solar motion light. Measure the distance between the solar powered security light and the solar panel to make sure that your wire will reach between the two.
Mount the solar powered security light’s mini solar panel on your chosen spot on the roof or wall and mount the solar motion light where you want the light to shine. Run the wire between the two, securing the solar motion light’s wire safely against the wall or building. If the area is large where you want lighting, you may even want to add another solar powered security light, to detect motion and light up a wider area.
Congratulations ! You now have a solar powered security light that is maintenance-free with no electrical wiring necessary. Your solar motion light has a built-in motion detector, the solar powered security light’s time delay is adjustable and best of all, your solar motion light is automatically powered by free power from the sun.
