Chapter 9

Amy's POV

I drove to Jeremy's house after work. He was in his room when I walked in and sat on the bed next to him. He was on his laptop on Facebook. "Hey Jeremy."
"Hey Jeremy." He sounded preoccupied so I sat there quietly for a few minutes, thinking about how to ask him.
"So what did you do yesterday?" I finally asked, trying to sound casual.
"Uhm, hung around here all day, helped mom move some more furniture around." He sounded slightly distracted and a little cautious.

"Oh..." yeah right! I thought. I closed my eyes, breathed in deeply, trying to get the courage to accuse him. "Jeremy, why was you're car at Tiffany's house yesterday both times I went by, if you were at your house all day."
He froze and looked up from his laptop. I stood up. He put his laptop next to him and stood up too. "What do you mean? I just had to drop off something my mom wanted to give her mom. Hang on a sec, I really have to pee." He left the room.
"Oh sure he has to pee now!" I grumbled to myself. After a few minutes. His phone vibrated on the bed. I picked it up and read the text. It was from... Tiffany. Surprise, surprise. I thought dryly.

'Hey u! my parents r gone for the night. Come over! I had so much fun last night!' I dropped the phone, shocked. After a few seconds, I picked the phone back up and re read the text. Nothing more than I had expected. Nothing less either... but it had still shocked me to know I was right about Jeremy cheating on me. I sighed. How could I have been so stupid? I rolled my eyes. "He's all yours Tiffany."

Jeremy came back in. "Do you want to stay for dinner? We're having pizza." He asked, obviously hoping I had forgotten our conversation.
I laughed once, humorlessly. "Seriously?" I shook my head. "Did you think I was stupid? That I wouldn't find out Jeremy? Why don't you tell the truth! You were cheating on me!" I held up his phone. "I have proof. Read your text. From Tiffany."
He paled. "I... we..."
"Excuses, excuses." I muttered, feeling a few tears at my bottom eye lashes. I brushed past him, to leave. But he grabbed my arm.

"Jeremy! Wait please!" I spun around and punched him in the face as hard as I could. Then in the stomach with my other hand. He staggered backwards, shocked.
"Don't ever call me Jemy again. Actually, don't ever call me anything again! And in case you're too stupid to realize... we're done." I growled out. I turned and walked out of the room. I got into my truck and drove to the park. Where I always go when I need to think.
It wasn't until I was sitting under a tree, looking out over the duck pond, that I finally started to cry.

Jeremy's POV

She punched me! I can't believe she actually punched me. I pretty much expected her to cry, maybe beg me to say it wasn't true. And then I would lie a little, make her take me back and give me a 'second chance', like I usually did with all my girlfriends. I should have expected Jeremy to be different. She's always been like that. Even when were little. I remembered her punching me in the stomach for not giving her a shovel for the sandbox at the park.
I rubbed my cheek and nose. That really hurt! I looked in the mirror. Ouch. I was definitely going to have a bruise. I texted Tiffany. "Be there in 5 minutes" and left.

Amy's POV

I wiped at my tears and breathed in, a shuddering breath. Why am I crying? I asked myself. He was a jerk anyway! But still, I was crying. Because jerk or not, I had fallen in love with him, only to have my heart torn out. I angrily wiped at my tears again. Someone walked up to me.
"Are you okay?" I looked up to see a little girl. She looked at me with a sad little face, her blonde hair in pigtails.

"I'm fine." I said, smiling slightly.
"You don't look fine to me. My brother always says he's fine when he's crying too." She nodded her little head seriously. "You would like him." A boy walked up to her.
"Brielle! You know better than to wander off like that!" He said. "I'm sorry if she was bothering you." He had brown hair and his eyes were a bluish-green.
"No, she wasn't bothering me." I said, with a half-smile. "She was helping me."
"Oh. Okay. I'm Dylan." He sat down next to me. Brielle plopped down in front of us smiling.

"I'm Amy. Well it's actually Amethyst."
"Amethyst, well that's a cool name."
"Thanks." I smiled.
"I told you, you would like him." Brielle said, playing with a mini toy horse that she pulled out of her pocket.
"We just moved in a few days ago. Mom's still unpacking so I get to baby-sit Brielle."
"That's cool. I don't have any little brothers or sisters. I wish I did though, little kids are so cute."

"I'm not little. I'm six." Brielle looked up at me again, with a bright smile.
"Oh, I didn't realize you were that old!" I replied, smiling down at her.
"I am." She said back, her expression and tone of voice completely serious.
I held back a laugh and turned to Dylan. "She is SO cute!"
"Do you want to help me baby-sit her?"
"Sure!" That would be just the thing to get my mind off Jeremy.

"Can you swing me on the swings?" Brielle asked, jumping up and running towards the playground part of the park.
"Sure!" I laughed, pushing myself up off the ground and running over with Brielle. "I'm gonna beat you there!" I said to her, running slowly, keeping pace with her and letting her get ahead at the last second.

"I won! I won! Dylan did you see that! I WON!" She hopped onto a swing. I pushed her slowly at first. "Faster! Amy! Faster!" She giggled. Dylan leaned against the swing set poles, watching me and Brielle. I pushed her one last time, and she went soaring through the air, laughing.
I sat down on the swing next to her, pushing myself slightly, my feet brushing against the ground. Dylan sat next to me on another swing. "You're really good with kids."

"Thanks." I grinned. A dog barked and I turned my head to see a gray husky leaping at Dylan. Dylan fell backwards off the swing as the dog landed on him, licking his face.
"Silver get off." He laughed, pushing the dog aside and getting up. "You okay Dyl?" Someone called out. I turned to see a boy standing a few feet away. He looked exactly like Dylan.
"That's my twin." Dylan said with a tiny smile, but his eyes weren't seeming very happy. "Ethan."

Ethan walked up. "Hey cutie." He pushed Brielle a little higher on the swings.
"Hey Ethan!" She called back.
"Hi. I'm Ethan." He held out his hand. I took it and we shook hands.
"I'm Amy." I said, not mentioning that my real name was Amethyst.
"It's nice to meet you. You've already met Dylan and Brielle obviously." He laughed. "This is Silver." He pointed at the husky. She barked once at the sound of her voice. I patted her, rubbing her silky head.
"She's adorable." I knelt down and ruffled her fur. She excitedly liked my face, wagging her tail.
