A Nightmare to Remember

A short story. Complete. From the author of The Last Encounter. This is a nightmare which you can never forget even if you want to.
I was in a mysterious place. The place was like frozen in time. Everything was black and white. I was running on a dirty road with lots of stones and holes. I had long brown hair and extremely pale skin. I was afraid, afraid of whatever that was chasing me. For a moment I looked back to see what my pursuers was doing but there was no one. Then I came face to face with a door which was not there earlier. It was ajar. I entered the room which was very dark. I could not see anything. I stumbled forward only to find myself falling down the step of stairs. I quickly stood up as I reached the bottom of the stairs. I could feel pain from falling earlier. Blood was slowly trickling down my arms where a small cut had formed. I felt dizzy for a second and then the next moment it looked like I was being strangled. I struggled for breath fighting my invisible enemy. I moved forward in the room which seemed to be a basement. Then as suddenly as it had come the feeling of being choked disappeared.

I opened my eyes to find that in front of me there was a table on which a coffin was placed. Above the coffin an oil lamp was burning. I moved forward to take a closer look the coffin.
To my horror I found that coffin was occupied. An old man was inside the coffin, dead. But that was not the thing that sacred me. In place of heart there was a circular hole in his chest and he was looking at me with a pleased smile. His eyes opened wide. I took few step back in horror and turned to run. I climbed the stairs and when i reached the end I was shocked to see that I was on top of a roof. There was no sign of the road from which I had come earlier. I peered down from the edge only find an endless expanse of black ocean. I immediately stepped back only to bumped into someone. I froze and my breath was caught in my throat. Then I felt the most excruciating pain in my chest. I blacked out only with the memory of the old man smiling and holding a knife in his hands covered with blood, my blood.
~~
I opened my eyes screaming loudly. My screams echoed in my room for while my breath came in ragged bits. I breathed a sigh of relief when I realized that it was just a nightmare. I could see the purple walls of my room which were adorned with band posters and what not. I glanced at the clock to find that was exactly midnight. A breeze of air wafted in my room forcing my attention to the now open french window. I was sure that I had locked it earlier. I glanced at my room taking in the sight of all my familiar things. I was glad to be back in the real life. That nightmare had scared the daylights out of me. I hoped that in few days I would forget it.
Suddenly a strange sensation filled me. Something was missing but I could not pinpoint it. Something was clearly wrong. Then to my horror I realized what was wrong, what was missing.

My heart was not beating fast though I had just awaken by a nightmare. It seemed that it wasn't beating at all. I quickly put my hand over my heart, my eyes quickly following the moment only to find a circular hole. ~~~~

Hope you all enjoy and please comment. It makes me feel better.
Yours,
Alena.
