A New Perspective

A completely different story than my last one, Peregrination. Trying something new out, tell me what you think:)
I took a few steps inside, and knew this was exactly where I wanted to be. Sun beamed in through the incredibly large windows, making the walls seem a lighter shade of gray. I will admit, it wasn't as luxurious as living in those high rise apartments in downtown New York. The plus side was that the apartment was extremely spacious. It was basically one giant room, plus a bedroom and bath on the level above. In my opinion it was better than those fancy, ten million dollar penthouses. First of all, this apartment was very modern. It looked like something you'd find in 'Modern House Magazine'. It had all the newest appliances, none of which I had to purchase, and best of all, it had to coolest staircase. It was a spiral staircase, with silver railings, and charcoal steps. Secondly, the location was perfect. The apartment is in Greenwich Village, and almost everything is in walking distance. There's a small grocery store just down the street, and my work is only a short walk away.

I work for a defense company as an engineer. I was just hired a few weeks ago, and my first day of work is on Monday. I used to live in Cambridge, Massachusetts, but with the new job, I had to move. I love Cambridge, and I will probably visit quite often, but Greenwich Village seems like a place full of opportunity. A lot of aspiring, and successful artists and musicians live here, which was one of the reasons I wanted to come. I always loved music, but not enough to pursue a career in it. From what I've heard, and seen, there are plenty of shows, and concerts, practically one every night. I grabbed a few advertisements for them on my way to the apartment. I guess I could refer to it as my home now, because that's what it was. My stuff is there, not exactly all unpacked, but a few items such as my couch, and bed were already in their proper place. I was still awaiting the arrival of my television, and a few other things, but for the most part, everything was here. I was now officially calling this apartment my home, and I knew it wasn't going to be hard adjusting to living here, it was turning out to be a miraculous place already.

When I met my landlord, he gave me a rather refreshing speech. It was nothing like the apartment I used to live in. The only major rule he gave was no trashing the place. It seemed fairly simple. He also told me that it would be quiet most of the year, considering half the people who lived there were either musicians or artists, and spent most of their time traveling the world. By half of the people, I mean two apartments out of four would be empty. There are only four apartments in the building, which took me by surprise. Normally the places I live in have at least thirty or forty other residents, but in this one, there would be about seven. The building was two stories, and luckily I snagged the top floor. A couple lived on one apartment on the bottom floor along with a group of three in the other. The two on the top floor were both only occupied by one person. I had the apartment on the right, and someone else had the apartment on the left. I haven't met any of my neighbors yet, but I imagine they are all off touring the world; though I didn't mind the peace and quiet.

After unpacking a few boxes, I walked up the stairs, stood in front of my bed, and let myself fall. I didn't bother to remove the clothes I wore that day, I was too exhausted. The second I shut my eyes, I heard a slight hum. I didn't know whether it was the air conditioning or some other appliance. A loud noise came blaring from the apartment next door. Startled, I slowly walked down the stairs towards the wall connecting the two apartments. As I got closer, I could make out what the noise was; it was music. I guess I got placed next to the musician who happened to not be performing around the world. I could hear the music perfectly since it was so loud, and to be honest, it was quite good. As much as I wanted to listen to it, I was desperately in need of some sleep, so very loud music wasn't something I'd enjoy now. What time was it anyway? I looked at the clock on the oven, 1:17. I banged against the wall a few times, not feeling guilty for interrupting the music since it was quite late. Three knocks came from the other side of the wall causing me to become even more frustrated.

I banged even louder this time, and it seemed to work. The music stopped, and I happily made my way back up to my bed. I guess I could apologize in the morning, wait why would I apologize? They were the ones making all the noise, well music. It was quite good, so I guess they might think I just didn't like their music. Wait, why the hell do I even care? They will probably be gone half of the time, and it's not like I am going to see them often. I stopped arguing with myself, and went up the first step on the staircase. Two knocks came from the door, and I groaned at the thought of walking all the way back to the door. Like I said it was a large place, and I was at the point where I could fall asleep instantly. I got to the door, unlocked it, and opened it up to see who it was.

A tall male stood there in the doorway with a smile on his face. I was taken aback when I saw him. He had the most amazing smile I have ever seen. His teeth were perfectly aligned, and very white. His smile was crooked, and slanted to the right, which I found oddly attractive. He had brown, shaggy hair which just went to the top of his eyebrows. His eyes were a light shade of blue, which kind of reminded me of the waters in Barbados or Saint Lucia. He was something else. I don't know what it was about him, he just seemed different than other guys I know.

"Did you not enjoy the music?" He said while letting out a small laugh. I was stuck for words. This guy was insanely attractive, and just had to have a British accent, which made him even more irresistible. I hesitated for a second trying to catch my breath; my heart was racing.

"No, it was great, but I just moved here, so I'm pretty wiped out."

"I'm terribly sorry. I was told the new neighbor wasn't going to move in until tomorrow evening. I was also told their name was Alex, which I assumed was a male, but I'm pleasantly surprised. The last bloke that lived there was an older male, late forties, big potbelly, so this is quite the improvement. Though he did enjoy our music, and never used to bang on the wall while we were playing, perhaps he was too drunk half the time to care." I let out a laugh, causing him to pause for a moment. "I'm rambling aren't I?"
