A Hummer Accident Last Week in Santa Cruz Kills a Man

A man from Santa Cruz was killed last week when he was struck by a Hummer. The man was walking along a sidewalk in the late evening when a Hummer jumped the curb and hit him.
The vehicle was being driven by a 43-year old man who quickly fled the scene of the accident. It was only about a block from the scene that the driver ditched his vehicle and instead got into a car with a man who was later determined to be his son. The father and son fled from police and even took off on foot after police managed to stop their vehicle. The father and son were both apprehended by police shortly thereafter. It has not yet been determined who the man is that was walking along the sidewalk. An ambulance came and rushed him to the hospital, but his injuries were so severe that he died shortly thereafter.

Although it has not yet been confirmed, police believe that the driver of the Hummer was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. It also appears that his son, who is 19-years old, was driving under the influence of drugs and without a driving license. The father and son pair have both been arrested and are being held in a county jail. The father will be charged for felony DUI, felony hit and run, gross vehicular manslaughter, and resisting arrest by police officers. The son will be charged as an accessory to the accident because of his role in trying to hide his father and the crime he committed from police.

It was with the help of other drivers and witnesses that the driver of the Hummer was able to be apprehended. Other drivers immediately pulled over to help the injured pedestrian after the accident, and also took the initiative to get the license plate number of the vehicle and the physical description of the driver. They were also able to tell police where the car was headed after the man fled the scene of the crime.

Although the number of drunk drivers in California is slowly decreasing, there are still enough accidents occurring each year to kill thousands of innocent victims. With the help of stricter laws and penalties for those who are found to be driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, more and more people convicted of DUI are being kept from getting behind the wheel again.

If you’re one of the thousands of victims that have been injured in an accident in which the driver that caused the accident was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, it would be wise for you to contact a San Jose personal injury lawyer. Drunk driving injury lawyers specialize in cases in which victims are injured in accidents involving drunk drivers or those under the influence of drugs.
