Everyone packed and got ready for the travel, we were going for the blessings of the god at the family temple which is in the native place, Gujarat. It is a long journey, as we would be crossing Maharashtra state to Gujarat. 2 cars were hired for the travel, packed luggage, food were kept in the car. Now the only wait was for the travelers, as a newcomer in the house i was more of an observer. People around me are nice to me, but the left out feeling was creeping on me as i was not doing anything. I had only done mine packing, i had offered help in making food or the packing of different things for the relatives but they wouldn't let me. So with no choice i had to just watch, one thing i had gained from this was children. As in instead of sitting alone i stayed with then and kids became my friends. I had made adult friends also, Pooja didi, her husband, Niki, and of course my mom in law who insists that i call her mom. I would love to was my reply i can't wait to tell my parents and friends but it would have to wait. I was already missing them a lot, i wonder what they must be doing.
"Kanak aunty let's go and sit at the window seat or else we won't get it"
"Yes, which car should we take, let's take black one it looks nice"
"Whichever car, let's go and sit"
This was from my kids friends, Payal, Rishi, and Nidhi. They were all around the same age and as they had made the decision for me smiling i went with them in the black car and sat.
"Kanak aunty, how come you were ready so early, and my mom is taking so much time" This was from Rishi, kids always had questions and around then you sometimes forget your problems. In answer pulled him in my lap and kissed him, in all 3 kids he was youngest and most adorable with the killer smile.
"Rishi, she needs to pack for you also and for your daddy and your mom helped in cooking food also. Don't worry they would be coming and we'll leave" Saying this I kissed him on the cheek and he smiled at me, I was happy for the moment.
He wanted her to look at him the way she was looking at Rishi, it seemed she trusted the kid more than him. But you can't blame her you idiot this was answered by my inner voice. I knew it was right and trust has to be earned, I will make her trust me.
He was thinking about the things Pooji said, and knew she was right he needs to apologize first but it needed privacy. Plans were still in the darkest corners of his head refusing to come out, so instead of going ahead with plan of action let's grab the opportunity. He walked towards the car, and again thought she looked beautiful when she smiled. She would smile at him, he will see to that. But it wouldn't be easy as right now as soon as Payal saw him and shouted his name Kanak saw me and her smile vanished, her body was tensed and again no eye contact.
I was thinking of going and sitting in the car but the fear that she might bolt, I remained outside leaning on the window smiling at kids.
"Hey Kids, you guys already taken your seats, good and good choice by the way as this car has god music selection"
Look at me, at least once but she was still not looking at him.
"So, which car should i come in Rishi?" I wanted her to answer me that's the reason my question was at Rishi who was sitting in her lap. One sign from her would do well, in spite of what Pooji said i will not force myself on her again.
She was praying frantically to god to not to make him sit next to me, I would not bear it. But what little i had learned he was favorite of the kids and by asking him it was a sure way to say that he would be coming in the same car with me maybe next to me. Please god I know I have to face him sooner or later i rather do it later.
If in the start she was tensed now she was throwing panic signals, it was hard to accept, but it was true of course she did not want him near her. Kids were shouting of his name to make him sit next to them but I have made my decision.
Before he could speak it, his mom came in with all other people
"Karan child, come and sit in the car. Payal, Rishi, and Nidhi make room for Karan uncle let him sit next to Kanak aunty.
"No mom, i am riding with the driver you guys sit there"
"No, Karan uncle please come and sit with us. We would play games and sing"
Walking at the other side of the car, standing just outside the window where Kanak and Rishi were there.
"Don't worry Rishi, I am not going anywhere i am coming in the same car but i would be sitting with the driver"
It was said with Rishi's name but Kanak knew he was telling her, even she was aware that as they are married she cannot ignore him but she sure could try. Right now when mom suggested that he should sit with me I was again sure that god would not listen to me, but he only said no. He behaved as if he knew what was going on my head, whatever he might be but right now he actually helped her.
And while thinking this she dared to look at him in the front seat with the driver and his black eyes were looking at him through the rear view mirror silently saying he might have made it easy for her right now, but the truth was far from it.
He found his plan; he will give her room but for sure will not leave her alone. She will find him every step that she takes.
