A German Party During a Peru Vacation

A short guide to visiting Oktoberfest in Lima during a Peru vacation, written by a Peru travel expert at Peru For Less.
A German Party During a Peru Vacation
Never mind BMW cars, Bavaria’s most important export has to be its annual beer festival, known world-wide as Oktoberfest. Or so you would believe, based on the enormous number of party goers - locals and foreigners alike – at Peru’s version of this famous event, in the capital city of Lima.

Despite being on the other side of the world, Lima’s four day Oktoberfest is virtually the real thing. Inspired and planned by a small number of Germans living in Lima, the party attracts tens of thousands of beer loving partiers and is even backed by one of Peru’s best beer companies, which releases a special version of their finest brew specifically for Oktoberfest.

Taking over an entire stadium, which is temporarily converted into an enormous tent modeled on the beer tents of Munich, Peru’s Oktoberfest is closely modeled on its original German counterpart: people are seated at long lines of tables, beer flows by the gallon, a live band plays Bavarian folk music and before long, everyone is dancing along on the table tops.

And all this is accompanied by the finest German traditions: hearty servings of food, yodeling, Alpenhorn and even the odd Bavarian costume.

How To Enjoy Oktoberfest Peru

Lima’s version of Oktoberfest has been running for the past eight years, and has fast become one of the biggest festivals in the city’s annual calendar.

Beer lovers on a Peru vacation during October should aim to coincide their visit to Lima with the festival which is usually held around the middle of the month.

Oktoberfest starts on Thursday and runs until Sunday, with each night offering no end of boisterous partying, music performances, dancing, drinking competitions, food, and of course, plenty of beer.

The festival is relaxed during the day but gets livelier after dark, reaching its peak at around 2am.

Oktoberfest takes place in the Videna stadium, just south of central Lima in the San Luis neighborhood.

Tickets cost 22 /S for single general entry, more for double entry.

Tickets are available from TuEntrada ticket desks in the popular supermarkets Plaza Vea and Vivanda. For any additional information, visit the Oktoberfest Peru website: http://www.oktoberfest-peru.com.
