A Dead Life (6)

Continued...
The next morning hit me full force. Sticky globs of my hair clumped heavily around my narrow face, and every bone in my body ached with such pain it made me want to scream. I gradually sat up on the soft mattress and shook Antonio awake. He lay beside me with one arm thrown across his eyes breathing softly I almost felt bad for awakening him. Almost. He grumbled before opening his left eye and then his right, stretching out his limbs until they gave a solid crack. He was so beautiful it hurt, and I felt ugly in comparison…. "Good morning baby." He whispered while coming his hand through the snarled twisted hair matted upon my head. "Good morning," I replied then before I could say anything else my abdomen released a sick pain that caused my face to wrinkle before I sprung out of bed and ran for the toilet, where I threw up noisily, and fell against the cool marble floors. I stayed where I was not noticing that Antonio had remained by my side. Another wave of nausea hit my stomach and flew to the back of my throat. As I leaned over the toilet Antonio pulled back my hair gently and braided it with his talented hands. I slumped heavily against Tony’s body. He kissed the crown of my head and murmured in my ear that he needed to call Zara (aka Trixie). Seconds turned into minutes as I lay on the floor, as a cool wind washed over my face waiting for Zara’s return. To be perfectly honest I was scared, scared for the life in growing my body and for myself. I was in constant pain, and I couldn’t keep anything down, was that a sign a message from the heavens telling me to surrender, or was this a way for the gods to pay be back for the sins I have created in my former and past life? I was barley hanging on I wanted this to be over to return to life as a human girl facing normal problems and not life and death choices, I was to young for this to happen to me, to vulnerable to be allowed a child.

When Zara came in my room, she broke my train of thought; she pulled Anthony away from me and brought him into the hall, where a series of whispers flew back and forth. What seemed like an eternity later they came back into the small square bathroom, where I was still lying on the floor, nursing my latest dose of nausea. " Hey honey honey," Zara said in a soft motherly voice. "I hear pretty baby given’ you some trouble today." My answer was to reach over the toilet at hurl. Again. Zara and Tony reached under my armpits and lifted me up gently onto the chair they positioned behind my. As I sat on the hard plastic, my head lolled forward, lacking in the strength I so needed right now. "Anthony, did you give her blood, it might nourish her, and keep her awake and stronger." "No I didn’t think of that, hold on I’ll ask Vespasian if he has the extra bags of blood left in the fridge." "While you do that Anthony, I’m going to take ‘Zurra down to my healing grounds meet us there." With that Zara’s cool arms scooped me up and was rushed to the healing center. "Come on my baby." I told the life nestled in my stomach; "We’ll be okay."
