A Dark Temptation (5)
A Decision...
Cassandra rushed home. She didn’t waste time. She packed her bags. She was going to have to give her mom a good explanation as to why she was leaving.
"What about your mother? Are you just going to leave her there?" her inner self said.
"Shut-up," she muttered.
She saw her mum in the kitchen cooking. She sighed. Well it would be unfair, not to mention dangerous for her to leave her mother, especially since she didn’t know what was going on. But she wouldn’t believe her if she told her the truth.
She sighed and fell down on her bed, as sleep overwhelmed her.

The next morning, she woke up. The first thing she saw was her packed bags. Memories flooded her, of the girl, Eric, the debate of leaving.
She sat up. Put on her clothes and went down stairs. Her mother had already left for work. She pondered over what happened yesterday. How did he get in front of her so quickly. He had hypnotic eyes that had mystery behind them. A mouth that could somehow suck the life away of a person.
She knew she was going to regret this but she opened her laptop and typed in.
Creatures/hypnotic eyes/fast movement/souls
SOUL EATERS was the first link to appear. She clicked on it.
‘Soul Eaters, have been around ever since time started.’ It said
‘Mangiatore di anima, Italian for soul eater. Has the enhanced ability to move. Not all are gifted with far sight or smell. Myth: Soul eaters may change others into them by breathing into them some of their life.’
‘They suck people’s soul to either be strengthened by it or to be younger. Some do not have the ageless gene. They may suck a young person’s soul to be young again. The more souls they suck, the stronger and faster they are. Some that do have the ageless gene will keep growing till they reach their prime. This can be usually up to 40 years of age. Once they reach their prime, they stop growing.’
‘To kill a soul eater. Not many people know the question to this answer. But some say that a silver bullet to the heart that is shot by a person they love or someone who loves them, they will die. Unless a soul eater sucks their soul too. ‘
In the olden days, people wore silver crosses. It was said that they would be safe if they wore these.
By Professor Birdwell.
Cassandra rubbed her eyes. She really was going crazy. She sighed and got ready for school.

When she arrived at school, it was already so packed. She just had to be careful not to bump into Eric. She was safe till lunch time. She sat down at her table for lunch.
Her other friends weren’t going to be joining her because they had drama practice. Someone sat down across from her, but she paid no attention.
"Giving me the silent treatment are we now?" a deep masculine voice said.
Her head snapped up. She stared at him. Her heart rate picking up.
"What do you want?"
"Just enjoying the company that is you." Cassandra gave him a questioning look.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" he said innocently, too innocently.
"Are you still upset about what happened yesterday?"
"No. I’m not afraid of you."
"Then why don’t you like me? I don’t see what could be so annoying. Here I am, a new student trying to fit into the school and here you are, a prejudice person who judges people so quickly. You know, many girls would kill to have me even look at them,"
" Oh, you’re so arrogant, you think you own the universe and every female should bow down to you, but I’m not like that Mr. Sinclair, I judge a person by their character, and you sir are a jerk!"
Eric tutted, "tsk. tsk. Now we are getting a bit personal aren’t we? You shouldn’t be so mean to the new student you know."
The cafeteria started to get full. Eric looked like he was about to say something but was interrupted by a squeal. "Eric… Eric… Oh there you are! Tell me more stories!" Felicity was running towards him.
She gave Cassandra a narrowed look, but otherwise ignored her. Everyone was heading towards her table now. They crowded around the table.
Cassandra folded her arms tightly across her chest and gave Eric a forceful glare.
"I am sorry about this though," he said.
"I’m on to you, and the stories you tell aren’t exactly surprising."
His eyes narrowed and his lips were pressed tightly together. His blonde hair fell across his eyes as if it was also disapproving. With one last look at him, she got up from the table and struggled to get out of the mob.

When the bell rang for the last period, Cassandra hurriedly went into the classroom. She had to talk to the teacher about her leaving. With a resigned sigh she stepped into the classroom. Not many people were here yet. Good.
"Mr. Becket, I.." Just then Eric walked into the room. He looked at her and sat down, still staring at her. Cassandra swallowed. She could feel the heat of his gaze on her back. "um, I’m, I’m moving, no wait actually just going away for a while, I’m, I’m not sure if it’s permanent. I may not be back after the summer holidays."
"I see," Mr. Becket said.
Eric raised an eyebrow.
"Well, talk to the front desk, you may need to confirm with your mother or father about you leaving. If it is for certain then you will probably get a slip you get all of your teachers to sign."
"Thanks Mr. Becket," Cassandra gave a weak smile.
She didn’t dare look at Eric when she sat down. But she had a feeling he was watching her throughout the lesson.
When the bell rang. Eric rushed outside. Cassandra was surprised. At least she wouldn’t have to give an explanation to him. She hopped into her car. But someone slid into the passenger seat.
"Sinclair! What?-" Cassandra began.
"Shhhhhhhhhh." He said and clamped a hand over her mouth. It was as if he was listening to something.
A few seconds passed. "You musn’t leave, he’ll find you and…. Just don’t leave. I won’t hurt you I could never hurt you." His voice became low and sincere. Almost believable actually.
He leaned towards her. She banged him hard on the head with her fist.
"Ow! What was that for?" he said
"Don’t even think about it, Sinclair!"
"Man, what is it with you and kissing? Hmmm.. Well I guess that’s part of your charm I suppose. Just, be my wife."
"UGH, again with the wife thing. Listen Mr I-think-I’m-all-that. I… will.. .never… like… you."
"Don’t leave, you can’t hide and even if you try to, there are ways I can make you stay…."
"Well good luck then!"
He gave her one last smile. Got out of the car and watched as she zoomed of.
When she reached home. The front door was unlocked. "That’s strange," Cassandra said and walked inside. She would probably have to tell her mum now.
"Mum! Mum! Where are-" Cassandra stopped dead in her tracks. There, lying on the floor was the still and pale body of her mother. She went over to her.
"Mum? Mum!" She sobbed. Her mother’s body looked so weak. She was still alive but barely. Her eyes were opened and were searching for something, she didn’t seem to realize her daughter was there. It was as if her eyes had no life in them….. no soul…….
