A Dark Temptation (2)
Eric and Cassandra finally meet for the first time.
When lunch arrived, the cafeteria was empty, "Where is everyone?" Cassandra thought.
But as she entered the doors she saw all of the students huddled around one table, they started laughing.
Cassandra asked the lunch lady, "What's all the commotion about?"
The lunch lady shrugged, "Some new kid I think, he's got the whole student body wrapped around his finger."
Cassandra narrowed her eyes. She had to know what was so great about this new guy to cause such a commotion. So she fought her way through the mob of people, and tripped landing palms smack down on the table, facing the most handsome guy she had ever seen.
She took in the blond hair, the slightly tanned skin, the hazel eyes and the well-built body. There was something odd about him.
He held her gaze. He had stopped talking and the girl on his right saw his preoccupation. She looked at Cassandra and threw her a withering look that almost said, 'he's mine, so back off girlfriend.' she shook his arm, trying to win back his attention. "Eric.....Eric...you were saying?"
*******************************
Eric looked at the black-haired girl, he had been thinking about all first period. He smiled, not in a friendly way, but in a way a hunter would smile to its prey. Cassandra shifted uncomfortably.
"As I was saying, the bear raised its paws in attack, but I quickly ran away, I knew it wasn't till long till the bear caught up with me so I broke off a tree branch while I was running, waited for the bear to catch up with me and rammed it into its paw. It bought me time so I quickly ran to inform the rangers." He paused, looking at the appraising faces around him before looking at Cassandra. She had her arms folded across her chest, her look questioning.
He gave her his best smile, one he knew women couldn't refuse and said, "Some of you may be thinking, did I kill the bear? Or if not why didn't I? I didn't kill the bear, if I did, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night." his voice throbbed with sincerity at the end.
While the girls cooed and the guys patted him on the back, he looked at Cassandra to see her reaction, but to his surprise, she didn't react like any girl he knew, she raised a questioning eyebrow, rolled her eyes and fought her way out of the crowd.
Anger surged inside him, who was this insignificant girl to refuse his charm? Up till now he thought no female could. This was going to be harder than he thought, but then again he liked challenges and had never had one like this.
