A Closer Look at No-Flip Mattresses

The concept of a no-flip mattress appeals immediately to the average consumer, but who is really getting the good deal? We have all been there, all you need is the mattress flipping but you end up wrecking the whole room instead. This is the type of situation that gives no-flip mattresses their appeal. This is the main advantage retailers like to shout about, but a no flip mattress can have its disadvantages. As you do not have to flip the mattress the manufacturers has not bothered with underside upholstery.

The idea around the no-flip mattress is a very good one. There will be no more destroying your bedroom as you move your mattress around. This can be a major problem with the smaller bedrooms. The other problem is the weight of a mattress can be trouble especially for the elderly. Over time, a mattress gets heavier the more times it is flipped, making it even more work to flip it over.

However, don’t be taken in by the overall benefit of a no-flip mattress, as the manufacture has used this problem to their advantage. As the underside does not have to be upholstered they can reduce the amount of material that is required for a standard mattress.

Unfortunately, this can significantly reduce the life of the mattress. A double sided mattress will probably last around 10 years. It is estimated a single sided mattress will last only half that.

In the end, the manufactures combined two problems and made one solution: cheaper production and happier consumers. Hence the no-flip mattress was born. The only question now, is it worth sacrificing the life of your mattress for convenience?
