My dark blue dress that landed just above my knee swayed as I raced around my room. My heart was racing. I looked at the clock. 7:37. "Crap." I breathed as I threw my amber hair into a ponytail. Throwing on some black flats, I looked in the mirror. The ponytail was messy and off to one of my head. My clear blue eyes squinting as I tried to adjust my hair to the middle. I'd never liked my facial features, but I'd grown to accept them, the way they are. Even with my high cheekbones and plump rosy lips, I looked like a little girl. One thing I was grateful for was my skin, no blemishes, no freckles, just porcelain. My height had always been average, I only reached about 5'8 or so. My mother had given me her hourglass figure. One thing I got from my mother was my eyes. My sky blue eyes. Sighing, I realized I forgot to put makeup on. I didn't have time, so I just bolted out my door. My Dad was in the living room watching T.V. I kissed him on the cheek and scrambled out the door.
Walking into Castanos was one of the most nerve wrecking experiences of my life. My veins felt like they were going to pop out of my skin as I told the hostess, "Baker." She smiled and led me to a small table in the back. Castanos was the most elegant restaurant we had in this tiny town. I couldn't hold my excitement as I sat done at the empty table. "Will someone be joining you?" The hostess asked. Her smile didn't reach her eyes and she looked a little distressed. I felt pity for her. "Yeah, he should be here soon." I said smiling. After taking my drink order she turned and left.
I glanced at my phone. It was already 8:14. I wondered where Tank was. We were supposed to meet up at 8:00. I sighed as I chewed on some bread sticks. Butterflies that used to occupy my stomach were slowly fading away, instead being replaced by a nausea feeling.

I woke up to the sound of my phone buzzing in my pocket. I moaned in my sleep and turned over. My face was immediately hit with a smell of earth. Remembering I had decided to sleep in a meadow, I pushed myself up and sat on my knees. Peering at my phone, I realized I'd been asleep for 4 hours. "Shit." I seethed as I rushed to my car. My mom was going to be pissed. I jumped in the car and tried to turn the keys in the ignition. The car wheezed. "Fuck." I breathed and slammed my hands on the steering wheel.
I got out of the car and checked the engine. It seemed fine, but then again I knew almost nothing about cars. Going back to the keys, I prayed to some unlikely god that the car would start. To my surprise, I had only turned it once before it had started. I breathed a sigh of relief as I looked out the window. It had started pouring. "Wow. Perfect timing." I mumbled to myself as I pulled out to go to the main road. I looked over to the passenger and saw the black diary I had grown obsessed with.
Against my better judgment, I pulled over and turned to a new page. "I was on a run today and came across an injured bird." Below that was a sketch of a beautiful blue jay. I noticed dried tears covered the page. "The bird reminded me of myself... injured, forgotten, lonely. I had tried to help the bird but knew there wasn't much I could do. I called our vet and told him where the bird was. He picked it up later and he informed me afterwards that the bird had died." I couldn't help but sympathize with the author. "I tried all day to shake off the memory of the bird. Lying there helpless... sometimes I imagine myself lying on the cold ground and not being able to get back up...Maybe it would be better if I just laid there and waited for death to take."

It was 9:57 when I stormed out of the restaurant. Quickly wiping the tears that were streaming down my face, I jumped into my car. Crying of frustration, I realized that my car was out of gas. No one was around to see me scream at my car. Grabbing my bag, I set out to my uncle's garage that was at least 15 miles away. Suddenly, I felt a drop of water fall on my head. "Perfect." I purred as I pulled my thin sweater over my head.
"How could I be so stupid?" I cursed in my head. I couldn't believe that I had actually thought Tank Baker had liked me! I was the scrawny nerd girl who was never pretty enough to be popular. I had always tried to hide my insecurities. I never thought myself worthy of anyone. I was so stupid thinking one of the most popular guys in school actually wanted to go out with me. He was probably laughing in my face right now.
I was surprised when headlights hit me. A dusky red truck pulled up from beside me. Gripping my pocket knife that was in my purse, I stepped back from the car. It was too dark and rainy to see the driver. As the window rolled down I felt my breath catch in my throat. Inside the car was someone I had never thought would pull over to help a stranger. "Need a ride?" A voice asked as I peered into the eyes of Ricky Talestoy.

Ricky:
The sound of gravel being thrown up by my tires was almost calming. Pulling out of the side road I noticed a figure walking. "What the hell?" I mumbled as I looked out to see a woman walking in the pouring rain. The woman turned out to be a teenage girl. The girl was beautiful. Her long flowing hair reminded me of a waterfall cascading down a cliff. "Hold up. Did you really just say that?" I questioned my mind. I was Ricky Talestoy. I didn't say the word cascading. Pulling over, I started to roll down my window. The girl looked familiar, but I couldn't put my finger on it. I asked if she wanted a ride and I swear it looked like she was going to have a heart attack. She didn't say anything but looked suspiciously at me, like I was going to murder her or something.
"I promise I won't bite." I teased as she gripped harder to her purse. It was still difficult to see her with all the rain. "Com' on. You're soaked." I willed her to get in the car. As much as I didn't want my seats to get wet, my mom always taught me chivalry. I grabbed my jacket and stepped out of the car. The girl stepped back but I threw her a comforting smile and some of her tension went away. I handed her my jacket and she took it gratefully. Raising, it over her head she followed me back to the passenger side door. I opened it and waited for her to get in.
I rushed back to the steering wheel and shook my head when I got into the car. I turned the key and peered over at the girl. My breath caught in my throat and I thought I was going to faint right then and there. This girl was beautiful. Even though her features were sad, they were gorgeous. Her skin looked like a buttery cream that was smooth and silky. I took all my will power not to reach out and caress her face. When I looked into her eyes, I couldn't help but be reminded of a crisp, clean, and pure sky. Her lips were a rosy color and I pinched myself to keep from tracing the outlines of her lips with mine. The scent that came from her was like cherry blossoms in the spring.
She coughed and I was brought back into reality. I noticed that I was sweating and thankfully the water from the rain was covering it up. I turned my head back to the steering wheel, trying not to hyperventilate. "Where to?" I asked her, feeling my voice hitch up an octave at the end. Great. Smooth, Ricky.
