While we ate, I told Kyle and Tim that I barley moved here and we didn’t live so far from them. Tim said he would love to meet my parents one day. After we ate some delicious food, I had to go. Kyle agreed to walk me home.
"Well Veronica, I would be so glad to have you eat with us again. Don’t hesitate on coming over, or if you need any help just come to us." I smiled. "Thank you so much, really. And dinner was delicious. I’ll see you." I said. Tim watched us while we walked away. "That was fun." "Sure was." Kyle said. "Do you want to come eat with us again tomorrow?" I smiled. "Sure". We reached my house, all the lights off. "My parents are probably already sleeping." I said. "Did they know you were going to stay out this late?" I shook my head. "They don’t care. Hey, you want to come inside?" Kyle looked at me confused. "Uh, sure" he said. I walked over to the door and turned the knob. It was locked. I groaned. I walked over to some trees and looked for the one that led to my window. When I found it I started climbing. "Come on" I said to Kyle. He followed.
My window was still open. I jumped in my room and sat on my bed. Kyle came in seconds later and sat next to me. "Maybe your parents are out looking for you." Kyle said. I smirked. "No, it’s not my first time being out so late, and every time their in their bed, sound asleep." "Maybe not–" "Oh Kyle, this is my life. Nothing you say will make it better." I said cutting him off. He sighed.
I shivered. It was so cold and I wasn’t wearing a jacket. Kyle lifted the covers and motioned me to go under them. I did as he said. I took in a deep breath and closed my eyes. "Well, I should get going." Kyle said. I opened my eyes to look at him. "Maybe you should stay here. It’s kind of late to be walking around, don’t you think?" He smiled. "I’ll be fine, just go to sleep." I groaned. "I’m not tired, let’s just talk." Kyle shook his head. "Close your eyes." I did as he said. He started humming this song I’ve never heard before. It was so nice and soft. He was a great singer, or hummer. Before I knew it, I drifted to sleep.
I woke up, sun shining through the window. Kyle was already gone, leaving a note behind. I opened the note and read ‘We’re expecting you at dinner. You should come a little earlier though. My dad and I will be at my place all day, so you can come anytime…Kyle’. I smiled. I quickly changed and put my long hair in a hair tie. I put on some black shorts and a T-shirt with some black converse. I went down stairs and took a bite out of an apple I found on the table. I don’t really like apples but this will do for breakfast.
I walked over to the front door where my parents waited. "Where were you last night?" My dad asked. I rolled my eyes. "Like you care" I said with a piece of apple in my mouth. "Now young lady, you have better tell us where you went." My dad demanded. "I made some new friends. And one of them seemed to save me from a lion. I’m meeting them now so I’ll see you guys later." I said and headed for the door. My dad stopped me by holding my ear. I twitched. "We want to meet your friends, so I hope you don’t mind if we come with you." He said. He pulled my ear even harder when I didn’t respond. "Fine!" I screamed in pain. He let go. "Let me just go get my gun. You never know if these are bad people." "And I have to get my purse" My mom said. They left me alone. I quickly went outside and ran to Kyle’s house.
Kyle was talking to his dad when they saw me running towards them. Kyle ran over to me. "What’s wrong?" He asked. I was out of breath and didn’t say anything. "Let’s give her some water" Tim said going inside and coming back with a water bottle seconds later. He handed it to me and I drank the whole water in within a minute. They both stared at me, worried. "My parents" I started. "They want to meet you, but I can’t let them. They always hurt my friends, or threaten them to stay away from me. I only had one friend back where I lived, but my parents didn’t know about her. They were already on their way, and my dad was bringing a gun. I thought he was going to try to hurt you guys. I couldn’t let that happen." I finished.
Kyle and Tim stared at each other for a minute. "Take her inside" Tim said. "Don’t go over there." I warned. "I’m just going to go check them out." Tim replied. "Don’t go over there!" I demanded. Tim made a firm nod. "Alright" was all he said. Kyle led my inside, and I sat down on the wooden rocking chair. There was silence. A couple of minutes later we hear a gun shot. I faced Kyle, both of our eyes widened. "Tim didn’t…" I trailed off when I saw the worried in Kyle’s eyes. "No!" I whispered. Tim went to my parents.
