A Beginning of a New Beginning (1)
This story is about a girl who moves to Australia and starts a new life.
"What?" I screamed. "We’re moving, sweetie." My mom said calmly. I sat on the couch, running my fingers through my dark red hair. "Why? We can’t just move! My life is here!" I kept on screaming. "I’m sorry Veronica but people only get this opportunity once in a life time. We can’t just give it up." My dad said. I groaned and ran to my room, slamming my door. I know I should be happy that my dad and mom got a new job and all but did it have to be in Australia? That’s like seventeen hours away from here, in an airplane, from northern California! I’m only seventeen for goodness sakes! I’m so use to it here, even though I only have like on friend.
My mom and dad work with animals. They help them get better and stuff. They have wanted to work in Australia for years, since a lot of wild animals live there. I think it would be kind of cool, but I can’t just leave. Apparently I’m going to have to.
After a few days of packing, the day I feared came. We went to the airport, and it was off to Australia. I listened to my iPod most of the flight, and when my battery died, I played my PSP. I’m a sucker for video games. People sometimes think I’m a tomboy, for liking video games, sports, and other stuff guys mostly like.
When we got to Australia, we got one of those jeeps and drove through some big trees. We arrived at a two story house that looked like it was made out of wood.
I sighed while I got out of the car, with my bags. "Pick any room you want, sweetie. Except the master room of course." My mom snapped the last part with a smile. I kept a serious face and looked at her. "Yes mom" I said. Her smile disappeared and she took some bags out of the jeep. I walked in the house and looked around. It was definitely bigger than my old house. I walked up some wooden stairs that ended with a hallway. There was like four doors lined up on each side. I walked to the last door on the left, and opened it. I looked around. The room had a queen sized bed with green sheets. It had a small closet, and that’s mostly all. The room was boring. I walked over to the window and opened it. There was a tree outside that I could probably climb down.
"Veronica!" I heard my mom scream from downstairs. I sigh and walk down stairs. My mom was there, putting the bags on the floor with my dad. "How do you like the house?" My dad asks. "It’s cool" I whisper. He frowns. "Look young lady, you have got to get over your attitude, got that?" I just looked at him and walked out. "Come back here young lady!" My dad repeated. I ignored him and walked through the trees. I walked until I couldn’t hear him anymore. I sat down against the tree and played with the dirt. All of a sudden I hear a growl. I gasped and looked around. It was already dark for me to see anything. After another a growl, I saw a lion appear from the trees. My eyes widened. It walked slowly towards me. I stood still, hoping that that was what you were suppose to do.
Then out of no where, I see something get shot to the lion, and in seconds it falls to the floor. I stared at it, wondering if it was dead. "Don’t worry, it’s only sleeping. Are you ok miss?" Some guy said coming out of the trees. He had black short hair with eyes so blue. He was dressed to be in the wilderness. "Miss?" The guy repeated. "Yes, I’m fine." I whispered, standing up. He offered me a hand but I didn’t take it. When I got a closer look at him, I realized he was only a teenager. "How old are you?" I asked. He smiled, showing off his perfect white teeth. "I’m seventeen, and you are?" I looked at him confused. "How’d you do that to the lion?" I asked, ignoring his questions. "My father and I always keep one of these guns, just in case. We don’t like to kill animals so we rather use this.
It makes whatever we shoot go to sleep." He answered. "I’m Kyle by the way." He said, walking over to the lion and taking out the thing he shot at it. It was a needle. "Veronica" I said. "And I’m seventeen too" I went on, answering his last question. "That’s a rare name. Well Veronica, why are you out in the wilderness when it’s dark?" I folded my arms. "I can ask you the same question." I said. He smiled once again. "I live right over there" he said pointing to a house I didn’t notice before. It was behind a few trees. "And I heard something, so I came to check it out. Do you want to come inside?" He asked. I shrugged. "It’s ok, I won’t hurt you. And that’s a promise I won’t break." I sighed. "Sure" I said. He smiled and we walked over to his house. It was big, and definitely beautiful. It looked like one of those old fashion cabins, but bigger.
He opened the door for me and I walked in. It was bigger than I thought. I followed him to his living room. It was decorated with some comfy couches and a wooden rocking chair. I smiled and sat on the rocking chair. I’ve always wanted one but my parents always said it was old fashioned. I love old fashioned stuff though. Kyle stared at me while I rocked in the chair. I stood up embarrassed. "I’m sorry, do you sit there?" He laughed. "It’s fine, go ahead. Do you want anything to drink?" I nodded while sitting down again. "Can I have some water?" he nodded and left. He came back seconds later with two water bottles. He handed me one. "Thank you" I said. "No biggy, it’s just water." I smiled. "Not that, u saved me from the lion." "Oh right, no problem. I’m glad you came here, or who knows what would have happened." I smirked. "I would just die." I whispered. Kyle stared at me like I just said I killed someone. "What?" I asked. "You want to die?" He asked. I shrugged. "I don’t know if I want to, but I don’t think I care if I do." "Don’t say that!" He snapped. My eyes widened then I turned to look out the window. It was quiet for a couple of minutes. Kyle had sat down on the couch next to me.
"Look Veronica, I’m sorry. I just can’t believe you would say something like that. You look like one of those girls who have a happy and perfect life." I smirked. "Well you got that all wrong." "Well maybe that’s all going to change."
"Well Kyle, who’s your new friend?" A husky voice said. A man came in the room, with a coke in his hand. He looked like he was about forty. "Hey dad, this is Veronica, she almost got eaten by a lion." Kyle said. "Well that’s darn scary. Thankfully you were there to save this young lady. I’m Tim." The man said while I shook his hand. "Would you like to stay for dinner?" He asked. I smiled. "I would be delighted to."
