7 Dwarfs Names and Descriptions

The seven dwarfs first featured in the German version of Snow White - Schneewittchen. In 1912, these seven dwarfs were named individually for the first time in a Broadway play titled Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Their names in this play were Blick, Flick, Glick, Snick, Plick, Whick and Quee. While the play made this fairy tale quite popular, its popularity reached new heights with the release of 1937 Disney movie by the same name. The details of these new names which were first used in the Disney movie along withe the description of the seven dwarfs are given below.

Name Description
Dopey Youngest among all the seven dwarfs, Dopey was also the sweetest and perhaps silliest of them all. He is depicted as a bald and beardless dwarf who wears an over-sized lime green colored cloak and a purple cap.
Grumpy If Dopey was the sweetest, Grumpy was the grumpiest of them all. Interestingly though, he was also very kind towards Snow White. In the story, he is depicted in a red cloak and has long white hair and beard.
Happy If grumpy was the grumpiest of the seven dwarfs, happy - as his name suggests, was the happiest among them. He was also the fattest among them, wore a brown cloak and yellow cap, and sported long white hair and beard.
Doc Doc was perhaps the smartest of them all; at least that's what his depiction with an orange colored cloak and glasses hinted at. Like Grumpy and Happy, even Doc had long white hair and beard.
Sneezy Sneezy was always on the verge of sneezing - with his finger under his nose trying to stifle the sneeze. He, like most of the other dwarfs, is shown with long white hair and beard, and wears a yellowish brown cloak.
Bashful As his name suggests, Bashful was the most shy among the seven dwarfs. He was most often depicted in purple cloak and magenta cap. Even though he had long white hair and beard, his beard was relatively small as compared to other dwarfs.
Sleepy Though not the laziest as such, but Sleepy always wore a sleepy look, with falling eyelids and continuous yawning. He is depicted wearing a brown colored cloak along with a green cap, and has long white hair and beard like the other five dwarfs.
