7 Common Foot Problems and Treatments

Do you suffer from foot problems? You are not alone, many people suffer from foot problems. Here are some common foot problems and treatments.
1. Bunions: This is the enlargement of the joint of the big toe. The skin over the joint becomes swollen and quite tender.

An important treatment is wearing shoes that conform to the shape of the bunion and does not apply pressure on it.

2. Heel Pain: This is extremely common and is an inflammation of the connective tissue under the sole of the foot.

Medication and stretching can reduce the swelling and show inserts are very helpful.

3. Morton's Neuroma: This is a pinching of the nerve between the third and fourth toes. The nerve respond by forming a neuroma, a build up of extra tissue around the nerve.

Treatment is usually wearing wider shoes and taking oral medication from your doctor to reduce the swelling around the nerve.

4. Corns & Calluses: These are caused by pressure on the skin of your foot. Common locations are big toe and fifth toe. Calluses are usually under the foot bones.

Treatment for relieving the pressure on the skin is usually done by wearing modifies shoes.

5. Hammertoes: This is a type of deformity having a permanent bend in your middle toe joint. This is usually aggravated by wearing tight shoes.

Treatment is usually wearing a shoe that accommodates your toe.

6. Plantars Wart: Plantars warts are found on the sole of your foot and look like calluses. These are an infection by a virus and grow inward.

These are not so easily treatable as other common foot problems and if over the counter products do not work, then you may consider seeing your doctor.

7. Ingrown Toenails: This is a condition where one or both sides of the nail cut into the flesh of the toe. This can cause swelling, redness, infection and be very painful.

It is recommended that you see your Podiatrist if you are suffer from ingrown toenail. One way to prevent ingrown toenail is to cut and file your toenail straight across and leaving them long enough so that they cover the tip of the toe.

Most of the common foot problems are treatable by using foot products designed for the health, comfort and wellbeing of your feet. Remember, when your feet feel comfortable, you feel comfortable.
