I'm Sorry
A Poem I wrote about a former Friend of mine.
The lies.
The mask.
I’m tired of it all.
But what is sad,
Is I didn’t see the knife,
Until it was in my back.
But I only want to say one thing.
I’m sorry.
I’m sorry you needed to lie.
I’m sorry you needed to cheat.
To wear that mask.
But I feel compelled to apologize about one thing:
I’m sorry I wasn’t there.
The moment they came with harsh words.
I heard them.
But I didn’t.
They didn’t register in my mind,
Until it was to late.
Until you came back.
Crying.
If I had paid attention,
To the words I knew were wrong.
I’d have done something.
Things would have changed.
They might have ended differently.
This doesn’t mean we’re friends.
It means I have more of a heart than you think.
But it changes nothing.
You’ve done things I can’t forgive.
Things that ruined our friendship.
You’ve said things, that you can’t just say.
I just wanted you to know,
I’m sorry.

But I didn’t.
They didn’t register in my mind,
Until it was to late.
