4 Ways to Make The Most From Your Basement

For many people, moving to a larger home is not practical. This is one of the reasons basements are being converted for other uses.
Many people have the dilemma of whether they should move to a larger house or try and find ways of making their current home larger. You have quite a few possibilities when trying to achieve this such as extending into the attic, building an extension or even converting the basement. One of the things that put people off converting their basement is the fact that it's underground and doesn't usually get much daylight.

However there are some rooms which works well in a basement, plus you have the advantage of not needing to move. Moving home is one of the most stressful things in life.

Games Room: There are so many types of games you can play in your basement such as pool, table tennis and darts. The whole family and enjoy playing these games; not just the children. However, specifically for the adults, you could create a cocktail bar which would be amazing when entertaining family and friends. For parties you can have loud music playing and not worry too much about the neighbors because of the natural soundproofing. A party atmosphere can be created with some paint, nice flooring and some ambient lighting.

Music or Theatre Room: Loads of people really like the idea of having a dedicated room which they can listen to or play music and watch DVDs. If you plan on going ahead you'll probably want to have acoustic lining installed onto the ceiling and walls. Because the majority of basements don't get much light, this makes them the ideal space for home cinemas.

Workshop: Workshops are great in basements because you don't need to spend too much time and money on the decoration. You will have to think about lighting however because you might not have much daylight coming in. Also think about access to the basement. If you are crafting large items such as wardrobes you need to be sure that you can get them out of the door OK.

Home Gym: For fitbuffs out there creating a home gym can be a dream come true. You don't have the hassle of driving to a gym everyday plus you don't have the expense of membership fees. Ideal flooring for home gyms is rubber. You will also need to think about ventilation for quality air supply. The amount of effort you put into decorating your basement totally depends on what use you have in mind for it. Even if you plan on moving home in the near future, decorating your basement will be a really good selling point.
