Deception

Story of a girl who is about to enter the real world of deceit and lies...If you like this story, do comment so I can know if I should continue it or not :)
I was twelve when I heard the news about my parents' death.

How they died no one knew. Their bodies were never found, the only conformation of their death being the smashed up car by the bank of a river.

My little brother and I went under the guardianship of Aunt Judith, my dad's sister.

Even to the day I am trying to find out the cause of my parents death. But it's virtually impossible to do so.

How can I find out how they died when there were no dead bodies? No murder weapon (duh) and no sign of struggle in the car.

It's like they simply vanished off the face of this earth.

Then why am I still trying to find what happened to them? Simply because even now, I can't accept the fact that they are dead, because even to the day, I have this strange gut feeling that they are out there somewhere.

Silly? I know it is. But it's not like I can help it.

Anyway, I am Serene Jones. A twenty four-year old who has just graduated with a Master's Degree in English Literature.

I am currently unemployed. Well not for long. Today is my interview with the owner of Icon magazine.

It has always been my dream to work for this magazine. And today, I was going to take my first step towards it.

"Selene hurry up dear. You will be late for your interview." My aunt shouted. Okay so I love her to bits and pieces but she can be a little annoying at times. I mean seriously its only 8:30 and---Wait. 8:30? Oh shit!!!

I can't believe I am late again. Where does the time go when you actually need it?

I ran downstairs and picked up my car keys. I have to skip breakfast again and the look on Aunt Judith's face told me loud and clear that we going to have one long discussion about my sleeping habits later.

Just when I was about to leave, Jake wished me luck for my interview. You want to know how he wished?

"What's the hurry Sill? It is not like any person in his right mind is ever going to give you a job. So it doesn't matter if you are late right?" he said smirking.

If I wasn't in such a hurry I would have emptied the whole jug of water over his head but since I did not have time for a war, I let his comment slide past. Just this once.

I simply shot him a glare and left for the office of Icon magazine.

And this is how I put my first step on the path that was going to lead me to a future I never expected or wished for.
