Steven Fletcher and André Bikey Maintain Burnley's Perfect Home Record

Sebastian Larsson's injury-time free-kick for Birmingham was not enough as Burnley won their fourth home game out of four
At this rate Burnley will amass 57 points this season, even if they do lose every game away from this lively ground. Owen Coyle's side made it four wins from four home matches thanks to an overpowering second-half performance and goals from Steven Fletcher and André Bikey.

A sunny and windy day in Lancashire did not initially play host to bright and breezy football. With both sides employing five-man midfields, the lack of space begat a bitty and error-strewn opening half-hour. The respective solo strikers, David Nugent and Garry O'Connor, could have been forgiven for establishing a loneliness support group at the break.

Thirty-five uninspired minutes had passed before Nugent recorded the first shot on target – drawing a fine low save from Joe Hart in the Birmingham goal after Wade Elliott made good ground down the left and squared to the former Preston and Portsmouth striker on the edge of the area.

Having barely flirted with the Burnley penalty area, Birmingham should have been ahead three minutes later. A James McFadden corner found its way to Roger Johnson, who played a low ball across goal to the unmarked Lee Bowyer. But, after getting his legs in a tangle, Birmingham's top scorer missed horribly from three yards.

Burnley were a team reborn after the break, with no one more involved than Fletcher. Eight minutes in and the Scot beat Hart from the corner of the area after Tyrone Mears had run 60 yards. His task was aided by the on-loan goalkeeper's bizarre decision to dive – the wrong way – before the shot was taken. The No9 hit the post two minutes later before next drawing a fine redemptory save from Hart.

However, the 22-year-old had little chance of preventing Bikey from doubling Burnley's lead just after the hour mark. The Cameroonian played a neat one-two with Nugent on the edge of the area before scoring his first goal for the Clarets thanks to what was a cool finish, especially for a center-half.

Coyle's men were running rampant at this stage and a Mears free-kick drew a fine save from Hart in the 73rd minute, with Bikey heading just over from the resulting corner. Sebastian Larsson's fine free-kick in injury time reduced the arrears, but will be scant consolation for Coyle's former manager at Motherwell, Alex McLeish.
