Detox Diet of Three Days

A detox diet of three days is a short term diet plan which helps to flush out toxins from the body and enables the liver to recover. As we know our liver is responsible for filtering or detoxifying toxins from the blood. Due to unhealthy eating habits, pollution, stress, etc. liver gets overloaded with toxins which lead to various health problems and ailments like digestive, skin, kidney, and liver problems. A three day detox diet by cleansing the body helps to overcome these problems and also benefits people suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and heart disease. However, since the diet keeps you away from junk, sugar or processed foods, some people who are used to eating these food items on a regular basis may experience some mild side effects like irritability, slight headache, diarrhea or flu-like, which can be overlooked over the health benefits the diet offers.

Foods to be Consumed
While on a detox diet one should include only raw vegetables and fruits in their diet. This benefits by retaining all the nutrients and vitamins as well as detoxing the body. Vegetables and fruits like avocados, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, cabbage, bananas, apples, etc. that are rich in fiber helps naturally in getting rid of toxins and wastes. One should also give up on drinking coffee, tea and soda and should consume freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices.

During those three days, every morning drink a cup of warm water and ½ lemon squeezed in it when you wake up. Prefer drinking lemon water in place of usual tea or coffee as this will stimulate the gastric juices. While planning the meal for the day, your detox diet menu should include one cup of whole grains like brown rice, buckwheat, amaranth, and minimum three servings of fruits and vegetables separately. At least one of the three servings of vegetables should include only raw vegetables like carrots, broccoli, celery or cauliflower. You can also prepare a salad made of fruits and vegetables which can be seasoned with vinegar or any of the natural virgin oils like olive, coconut virgin oils, or fish oil.

Over the entire period, one should take two doses of a kidney and liver tonic. Two cups of dandelion or two cups of parsley, a clove of fresh garlic, chamomile, carrot or beetroot juice, fennel or yellow tea are some good options for kidney and liver tonics. While following this diet, keep yourself hydrated by drinking at least 6 - 8 glasses of water or juices as these fluid intakes will aid by flushing out more toxins and waste from the body. Finally before sleeping, one can drink a cup of herbal tea.

To enhance the benefits of this diet, include a 30 minute walk or some simple exercise program daily within the diet period. This will improve your overall health and will also help you to lose weight.
