Pop star Michael Jackson is reported to have died tonight.

City and law enforcement officials in Los Angeles told the LA Times the singer had stopped breathing when they were called to his home.

Paramedics performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and then rushed the singer to the University of California, Los Angeles Medical Center.

US gossip website TMZ was the first to report the death of the Indiana-born artist.

Jackson was due to perform 50 farewell concerts, bowing out on an illustrious music career spanning several decades which earned him a fortune.
