Bay Window Treatments
There are many creative ideas and styles of bay window treatment according to their shape and location. Bay window treatments should be planned in a such a way that they are both functional and complement the style of the window. There are numerous accessories available in the market to decorate bay windows, like, curtain rods especially designed for bay windows, or if you wish, you can cobble three separate rods with sufficient spaces to hang them. Some of the bay window treatment ideas are:
- Bay Window Curtains: Curtains enhance the ambiance of a room. Generally, the café-style and long panels suit the best for bays. The closer you hang the panels to the ceiling, the more exotic the look it gives. Also, café curtains with only one long valence provides good privacy, if the bay overlooks a public area.
- Valances: Either you can make your own valances, using your own fabric if you are creative enough or you can purchase it from the market. The latter choice is quite simple. Valances are a strong treatment, hiding all the mechanical headers and yet providing a clean touch and finish to your blinds. They should be put so that they do not block sunshine.
- Window Shades: Window shades are highly recommended for the office or media rooms, because they help reduce the glare on your television or computer. They also help in controlling ultra-violet rays while allowing sunlight to enter freely. Shades that go up and down - like Roman shades, are a popular choice as a bay window treatment.
After giving all the above mentioned required bay window treatment, the next step is to add the finishing touches, that is to decorate the area around the bay. A close sitting arrangement gives a cozy look. See that no extra space is left in the bay area. Remember, an empty bay area is a wasted floor space. Some ideas to decorate bay areas are:
- There is plenty of light near the bay area and hence, it is a great idea to put a beautiful plant there. It will look amazing when the light falls on it.
- A small side table and a window seat that is properly cushioned will add to the ambiance of the room.
- If the space is less, decorative vases could be put or a painting could be hung on one side of the wall.
