Injured Andrew Flintoff to Miss England's World Twenty20 Campaign

England's World Twenty20 preparations suffered a blow with the news that Andrew Flintoff is unlikely to be fit
Andrew Flintoff is out of the World Twenty20 which starts next week. The England all-rounder missed the recent Test and one-day series win against West Indies as he is recovering from knee surgery to correct a problem he picked up when playing for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League at the end of last month.

Although the England and Wales Cricket Board had maintained he would recover in time to play in England's opening World Twenty20 match against Holland at Lord's on Friday week, it is unclear how confident Flintoff himself has been about recovering in time since he suffered the cartilage injury in South Africa.

The 31-year-old last played for England during the series in the Caribbean against West Indies when he was forced to fly home in the middle of the Test series for a fortnight for treatment on a hip problem, before he returned for the one-day series.

His latest setback is bound to cause questions over his ability to participate in England's bid to regain the Ashes with the first Test against Australia starting in Cardiff on 8 July.

Flintoff may now hope to make the latest comeback of his injury-troubled career for his county in Lancashire's County Championship match against with Hampshire on 17 June in Liverpool.

England's leading batsman, Kevin Pietersen, is also recovering from an achilles injury which forced him to miss the recent one-day series against West Indies but it is thought he will return for the World Twenty20.
