Injured Khan's England Tour Ends Early
Cricket: England fast bowler Amjad Khan is flying back from the Caribbean a few days before the end of the tour because of a knee cartilage problem
Amjad Khan, the Kent and England fast bowler, is to miss the final few days of the Caribbean tour because of injury. Khan is suffering from cartilage damage in his knee and was due to fly back to England last night. Exploratory surgery is a possibility and he will almost certainly miss the season opener at Lord's between MCC and Durham beginning on 9 April.
Khan, who played for Denmark, the country of his birth, before qualifying for England, has consistently struggled with injury, most recently missing the entire 2007 season because of cruciate ligament damage. The latest problem is thought to be linked to the old injury.
Performances since his return brought him to the notice of the England selectors, who added him to the England tour party for the Test series in India when Ryan Sidebottom was injured, and again in the Caribbean when Andrew Flintoff suffered a hip injury.
He made his Test debut against West Indies in the final Test in Trinidad, overcoming a nervous start to take the wicket of the in-form batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan. Sidebottom's return home ensured that Khan was added to the one-day squad as well.
