Flintoff and Pietersen to Be in Action on Ipl's First Day in South Africa
There will be plenty of English interest as the IPL gets underway in Cape Town, as both Andrew Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen will be in action
Newlands in Cape Town will host the opening ceremony and matches of this year's Indian Premier League on April 18, while the Wanderers in Johannesburg will be the venue for the final on May 24. Johannesburg will also host one of the semi-finals on May 23, with the other last-four game to be played at Centurion a day earlier.
There will be plenty of English interest on the opening day, as Andrew Flintoff's Chennai Super Kings, captained by MS Dhoni, take on Sachin Tendulkar's Mumbai Indians in the first game. That will be followed by a clash between the Bangalore Royal Challengers, to be captained by Kevin Pietersen, and the Rajasthan Royals, who Shane Warne led to glory last season.
In all, there will be 59 matches played at eight venues: Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Pretoria, East London, Kimberly, Bloemfontein and Port Elizabeth. Durban, with its large Indian community, will play host to the most matches, 16, while Centurion would stage 12. Both the Wanderers and Newlands get eight matches each, with St George's Park in Port Elizabeth staging seven games. Buffalo Park in East London will be the venue for four matches.
