Liverpool Ask Uefa to Respect Hillsborough Anniversary

Liverpool have asked European football's governing body, Uefa, to ensure the club does not have to play a possible Champions League quarter-final on 15 April, the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster.
Rafael Benítez's team face Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League with the dates for the second leg of the quarter-finals scheduled for 14 and 15 April. Liverpool plan to hold a memorial service to commemorate the 96 victims of the Hillsborough disaster at Anfield on the 15th and are anxious to avoid any complications should they reach the last eight.
A club spokesman confirmed: "We wrote to Uefa last year pointing out the significance of April 15th if we do get to the quarter-final, especially as it is the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster. We have asked not to play on that date and that April 14 should be considered instead. Uefa has replied acknowledging the significance of the date and confirming they will do their best to support our request if we progress."
