Gerrard Ruled Out for Up to Three Weeks

Steven Gerrard has been ruled out of Liverpool's title challenge for at least three weeks after suffering a hamstring tear during the club's FA Cup exit at Everton.

The Liverpool captain limped off after only 16 minutes at Goodison Park having signaled to be replaced as soon as he felt the problem in his left leg. A scan this morning confirmed a tear to the hamstring and Gerrard will now miss Saturday's trip to Portsmouth, England's friendly with Spain next Wednesday and the home game with Manchester City on 22 February.

The midfielder is also in danger of missing the first leg of Liverpool's Champions League tie at Real Madrid on Wednesday, 25 February – exactly three weeks after sustaining the injury.

A Liverpool spokesman confirmed: "A scan today has confirmed a tear in the hamstring of Steven's left leg. He will be out of action for about three weeks."
