Flintoff Could Be Fit for Jamaica Test After Scan Shows No Major Damage
Andrew Flintoff could be fit for the first Test in Jamaica after a scan on his strained side revealed no major damage
Andrew Flintoff could yet be fit for next week's first Test in Jamaica after an MRI scan on his strained side revealed no major damage.
Flintoff complained of discomfort after batting in England's opening tour match in St Kitts, and yesterday flew to Jamaica with the team doctor, Mike Stone, for the scan. The results were then assessed in the UK by the England and Wales Cricket Board's chief medical officer, Nick Peirce.
An ECB spokesman said: "The scan showed no major damage and we will continue to assess Andrew on a daily basis."
No decision has yet been taken on whether Flintoff, whose international comeback at home to New Zealand last summer was curtailed because of a similar injury, will play in England's final pre-Test warm-up game against West Indies A, starting at Warner Park in St Kitts on Thursday.
But the news that the injury is not as serious as might have been feared means Flintoff could yet take his place for the opening Test of the four-match series, starting at Sabina Park a week today.
