Appiah to Take Part in Spurs Trial Match Tonight

Tottenham Hotspur will decide whether or not to sigh Stephen Appiah after watching him in a friendly match tonight
Stephen Appiah will be under scrutiny today when Tottenham Hotspur play a behind-closed-doors friendly at their training ground. The Ghana midfielder, who has been without a club since he was released by Fenerbahce last year, has been training with Spurs for the past week.

But the club are worried about the player's fitness levels and have still to decide on whether to give him a short-term contract until the end of the season. The friendly game will help make up their minds. Appiah was brought to the club by Edgar Davids, the former Tottenham midfielder and a close friend of his from their days together at Juventus.

The Spurs manager, Harry Redknapp, who has already signed Jermain Defoe from Portsmouth for £15m this month, wants to strengthen further during the transfer window and has broadened his search for midfield cover to include Internazionale's Olivier Dacourt, the 34-year-old former Everton and Leeds player.
