Liverpool Skipper Gerrard Held After 'bar Brawl'

Steven Gerrard has been arrested by Merseyside police following a disturbance in Southport town center.

The Liverpool captain was arrested along with five other people in the early hours of this morning after an alleged altercation at a licensed premises on Bold Street, Southport. Gerrard has spent the night at a police station and is still being questioned about the incident this morning.

Police were called to the premises at 2.30am after a 34-year-old man from Southport suffered facial injuries and was taken to hospital. The injuries are not believed to be serious. Six people, including Gerrard, were detained on suspicion of a section 20 assault and are still being questioned.

Four men, aged 33, 31, 29 and 19, from Huyton, Gerrard, from Formby, plus an 18 year-old man from Litherland were all arrested.

A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "We are investigating sn assault that took place in the early hours of the morning on Bold Street in Southport. At around 2.30am this morning, officers attended a disturbance at a licensed premisis on Bold Street. Six men were arrested on suspicion of section 20 assault on Lord Street.
