Ousted Thai Leader's British Visa Cancelled
Former owner of Manchester City FC banned from returning to luxury homes for fraud conviction
Ousted Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who used to own Manchester City football club, has been banned from coming back to Britain, it was confirmed yesterday.
The visas for Thaksin and his wife Pojaman were canceled, preventing them from returning to luxury homes they own in Surrey and London.
The couple were convicted of fraud and corruption in their absence from Thailand. While on bail they fled to England where Thaksin praised Britain's 'mature approach' to democracy. They are now in the Philippines.
The UK Border Agency issued a memo about the couple to all airlines from the British embassy in Bangkok. It advised that the airlines were 'not to carry these passengers to the UK'.
