Man of Steel Contenders Ready to Clash in Semi-final
Leeds prop Jamie Peacock will line up against St Helens team-mates James Graham and Leon Pryce in tomorrow night's qualifying semi-final
The three leading contenders to be this season's Super League Man of Steel will clash in tomorrow night's qualifying semi-final between St Helens and Leeds at Knowsley Road. The game's most prestigious award is being decided by the players this season and for the first time the Rugby Football League has announced a shortlist ahead of the presentation in Manchester on Tuesday week, and the Leeds prop Jamie Peacock is up against Saints team-mates James Graham and Leon Pryce.
Peacock, who will captain England in this autumn's World Cup, is in line to join Ellery Hanley and Paul Sculthorpe as the only players to win the award more than once, after claiming it for the first time in 2003 when he was at Bradford.
Graham, a 23-year-old prop from Maghull, has already won the Rugby League Writers' Association player of the year award after holding the Saints pack together all season, but Pryce, a former Bradford team-mate of Peacock's, pipped him to the St Helens player of the year award last week.
